Playing games IS wasting your life.
You could have make you life and those around you better if you spend your time on improving yourself instead of playing games.
You could read more books, get more degrees, earn more money, and eventually your social hierarchy will move upward. You, your family and your (future) children will benefit from your actions.
But you choose to waste your limited time in life on gaming, complaining about wasting your time
Or you could have fun in the game, if the game was fun to play, then it's not a waste of time.Playing games IS a wasting your life.

You could, but who is anyone in this thread to determine what constitutes fun in one person's particular situation? There are people who find amassing exorbitant amounts of equally, accumulating such wealth to the degree where they'll actually have very little need or use for it. There are people that spend an exorbitant amount of time decorating a square room a dozen times following a nearly enough exact or common theme with previous iterations, for virtual assets. There are people who spend ludicrous amounts of time optimizing fights based on their own resource gathering or based on the information of others to get a high parse all so they can tell their friends they're actually decent at fighting things on a circular platform.
Needless to say, hopefully, the point actually got across, that people have fun in a wide variety of ways and in no way conforms to a universal measure of what would constitute such. No individual is to say what is and isn't fun. That was the point, that there seems someone fairly upset over the prospect and fact that people still actually have fun. - and if you're going to come up with such remarks as to say "You'll only accomplish wasting your life doing that" - Is like the most inane comment one could spin whilst playing video games.
Video games used to be an art form. The presentation, music, writing, and interactive features combined to make a new form of art that many critics believed could one day rival film and music. True RPGs, which began as TTGs and evolved into MMOs, were founded on the premise that the “art” is a unique combination of player-driven stories and a setting drafted by the developer. By being a part of a story, YOU were a part of the art. That’s what drove people to multiplayer RPGs like D&D and continued in their online counterparts like WoW and FFXI.
FFXIV is not like those games anymore. We get very little gameplay per patch (every five months). The player-generated content these days doesn’t fit the setting crafted by the developer: horse dongs and cow girls are NOT FFXIV. The game has been neutered, all forms of creativity destroyed, and all player content driven into the gutter.
Video games are not “wasting your life”. FFXIV is not representative of MMORPGs and the devs are setting a pretty bad example as of late.
No time spent in enjoyment is wasted. If you enjoy doing 10,000 repeated menial tasks...then it was time well spent.
If you hate doing the thing. Do it only till you get what you need and then drop it...or give it up entirely and do something else be it in game or out of it.
Find what you enjoy. Don't bash on others for enjoying something you yourself don't like.
I love PvP. I hate the PvP in this game. I don't PvP. I don't hate on others for enjoying the PvP in this game.
It's called being an adult.
"This game is in a terrible state right now" bro this THREAD is in a terrible state right now lmao
I have to agree. I imagine that we would be having a far more productive discussion if we were spared the input of those who are willing to accept the decline, whether it be due to them playing at a pace that is far slower than the norm, the lack of the better frame of reference set by previous expansions, or whether they are being needlessly contrarian towards other posters.
