Because when you level, you're not getting, say, Paladin xp, you're getting Gladiator xp even at levels past 30. It's probably tied to the old system would be my guess, and decoupling it would be more of a pain than just leaving it the way it is.
As I posted it earlier, they are perfectly capable of making weapons that are only usable by Jobs and not Disciplines, because all Relics work that way, and there is no problem with gaining XP while having a Relic equipped, so surely that cannot be the issue?
Those are designed for a job specifically, and the way people get around it is just using tome gear. When you're capped at max it doesn't matter much for xp gain anyway. It'd be the same for AF gear too since those are locked to the job and not the class. Frustrating, but this is likely a part of the game that is still locked in old systems from 1.0; 1.0 there weren't jobs until near the end of the 1.x era (1.21 was when they were released - 1.0 ended on patch 1.23b, which was only about 6-8 months apart) so everyone was just the base classes until they could do job advancements.
Not quite spaghetti code, but still tied to the original armoury system that 1.0 started with. Relics and AF are tied to the job system instead.
The only reason I disagree is that your 50-60 stuff is locked behind HW access which means as a new player with road to 80 buff there is potential that you could go 10+ levels without getting a new ability while finishing ARR which just feels absolutely miserable, especially with how weak the level 50 kits are for pretty much every job.
I dont feel any "job identity" since I can be any job at any time, it works only if u have one class/job. These quest more like The "Master of all Trades/Marry Sue/WoL" is saving the world again, but now with some JOB theme spice. I dont say, that thesee quests are bad (compared to MSQ everything else is better). I am just telling, that I should do these quests when I am in mood and ready, and not to be forced to grind them in order to have core game abilities, coz doing content, that you dont want to do right now, is not fun, and the game must be fun.I don't know how much I can agree with that. XIV is very story focused, the writers really really want you to read a bit on your job identity by playing their storylines. Just like how you have to do the endless breadcrumb MSQ in order to unlock everything and experience the story in the order they want you to. It is of course completely unnecessary mechanically, but unlocking new abilities as your character experiences a deeper understanding of their job is at least putting the RPG part in MMORPG, just a little.
Besides, most of the job quests are honestly better written than the MSQ.
I'm sorry if it comes across as trying to gatekeep, because it's not; but I still think if doing solo duties, reading dialogue, and doing breadcrumb quests bothers you, well then is this game making you miserable?
I can't imagine playing a Class being more fun than playing a Job... heck, the last thing ACN learns is at level 30 and LNC doesn't even get any traits.
To be honest my main issue with completely axing classes (as in literally unabke to select them after lv30) would be losing out 8x 10 hotbars for /hotbar copy macros
At least they should automatically equip the job crystal (when you have it) when you equip the weapon, like it does for newer jobs without a class. It's an easy mistake for a sprout who has not entirely learned how gearsets work to change from their job to something else and when changing back they are missing the job crystal without noticing.
It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.
Just start making ALL weapons be job stone weapons only, like relics/class gear. It forces you to wear your job stone if it's a big problem still.
I would miss doing new content in jobstoneless parties just for the fun though.

Unhappy with how they implemented Mahjong? -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/381358-Mahjong-is-the-most-depressing-mini-game-you-ve-added-to-XIV
I think only Conjurer some times is more fun to play than WHM, since they both have almost same DPS rotation, but Conjurer is missing many unbalanced WIN buttons, so u actually have to think about ur stats, buffs, potions and mechanics.
