Will it though? Will it really? Didn't the most recent ultimate world first clear use actual game altering mods for an advantage in combat and even none of them got banned? So Im doubting anyone has ever actually been banned for things like chat bubbles and "increased bust size."
I forget the specific details but pretty sure they all got punished by loss of their clear and weapons with the main person getting a harsher punishment alongside that? I know a couple of the members left the game out of shame though. Will it though? Will it really? Might be thinking of a different clear drama tho, I'm stoned.
They didn't leave out of shame, they deleted their characters because they would get harassed and witch hunted forever, since your Lodestone ID never changes, people would be able to track them down no matter if they changed their character names or transferred servers or whatever they did.
I am also not sure they left, for all we know they could've immediately created a new character, bought boosts, and be back at at roughly the same point they were before, minus glams and gear, in a couple days after speeding through EW MSQ, and they are defintely capable players so even that isn't a big loss for them.
While I don't agree with it happening...isn't that the same behavior that can be seen in ANY major fanbase? There are always going to be the trash who take things too far with threats/harassment/stalking/etc.
So the meme of "great community" isn't as insulting as you seem to think when that type of BS happens in every fanbase out there.
You are, in fact, correct on that note. That fandoms and large groups of people collected around particular concepts are given to witch-hunt-y behavior and basically look for any excuse to tear somebody apart if they even step one foot over the line by accident. While I don't agree with it happening...isn't that the same behavior that can be seen in ANY major fanbase? My "great community" line references the fact that none of these other communities have the insistence on self-proclaimed "niceness," "welcoming warmity," and "wholesome 100 chungus" that XIV's does, wherein that insisted reputation and community-wide behavior covers up some very, very vicious community politics.
Except in other games, you can actually flee by changing name/server, while in FFXIV, you are stuck with the same lodestone link, which means you are basically forced to take it and there is no escape. While I don't agree with it happening...isn't that the same behavior that can be seen in ANY major fanbase? That by itself is a massive difference, especially when there is death threats, stalking and harassement going on.
Be careful not to slip on all pearls rolliing around this thread that were clutched so tightly.
People obsessed with witchhunts for ERP/mods amuse me. I don't even know what "mare" is and don't care.
What people do in their own chat logs and whatever they choose to look at via mods, however hideous they would be to me, is none of my business.
If anything I think these people are repressed and want to be tangentially involved in this behavior under the guise of being morality police.
Thank you. I've been saying this for years. I don't care about mods, cosmetic or parsers because it doesn't impact me. I don't raid seriously, as in I'm not in a static or do savage/ex content, and I don't ERP, but to be fair, I've seen some cosmetic mods that have nothing to do with the latter. I've seen images of mods that make some characters look really cool. Like a Sith Lord from Star Wars or somethingBe careful not to slip on all pearls rolliing around this thread that were clutched so tightly.

These mods are for the person using the mod and the select few who can see them. They aren't impacting gameplay at all. Some of the people in this thread remind me of all the parents and "family groups" that were up in arms over South Park back in the 90s. Like, you legit don't have to watch it if you don't like it. But no, we're going to ruin the fun for everyone else.
I mean, mind your own business?
