AST and DRG are the jobs they mentioned with reworks so extensive that we won't see them until 7.0. But yes, you can essentially look at major reworks such as MCH in ShB and SMN in EW as new jobs. Then when we factor the amount of jobs we currently have and whatever gaps exist with the roles, a melee job that uses scouting gear is the safest prediction to make.

Speaking of the AST rework though, whatever they do I would still expect it to play like a healer. Any player who is already thinking or hoping they'll do something groundbreaking will be sorely disappointed. I figure I'll just throw that out there now.

Yus. Plz. I've really wanted one for a while. Now we do have some Super Sayian modes (like Reaper*), but I'd like an actual form shifting job with that being an integral part. Their upcoming game could be some elements of inspiration (FFXVI); although, perhaps not specifically primal based to avoid SMN toes- maybe could consider the Zodiac like vibes akin to FFXII. Personally have desired this in reference to things like Shadow Hearts, FFXI Blue Mage lore, and Terra Branford. *Reaper is cool, just not really a transformation like job (I feel Super Sayian fits what it does more), personally wish it might get a Diabolos or more wraith like visual at some point but it's not important if it didn't.

I've suggested some ideas that might be feasible-ish (still more expensive than normal I'm sure), where in the weapon that the job uses also impacts the forms- which gets around one element that can sometimes bum certain people out (lack of customizability while in form, personally this has little impact on my enjoyment of shapeshifting). The "ish" part coming from the example I've used previously like a Sash (think Nezha) or Cloak (Spawn, from the comics / Dr. Strange) with animation concepts like Bayonetta's hair / suit and Voldemort's robes in the last movie. The 'thread' like concept being a way to blend your transformation animation, or be part of some non-transformed attacks, but in transformation you could potentially see something like a Dullahan gaining the cloak (even if they're using a sword), or certain patterns in the material / colors might translate onto the character (like runes on a wolf, or the tatters of cloth akin to the 'weapon' like bracelets on the ankles), color choices in the gear impacting the form, and potentially relics adding extra effects or design differences.

I could imagine the job wearing scouting gear too, which is nice since that gear group hardly shares currently lol. Seeing as visually it'd be fine, and ultimately doesn't really matter since it's a transformation based job.. could be any of the gear if we don't consider visual theme of the gear itself when out of form :3.

Beyond that I think I had mentioned Geoknight and a sort of Eldritch / Blood Mage before.

Geoknight primarily listed because I love the Golbez and Ex-Death visuals, strong lack of high powered earth, water, and wind type damage spells, and was thinking of Sauron's opening scene in Lord of the Rings with his giant bludgeon weapon. Some sort of bell built into the weapons. Maybe gravity magic, if it's not going to remove another job's existence that had a chance. I suppose could be a tank, though I was honestly am initially imagining DD as that's kind of what it has always been in the past (supportive damage dealer) and for the Knight portion just add some real thic artifact armors.

Eldritch / Blood Mage not being the name of the job just that it's a dark based job that isn't the typical purples, might be blues, tendrils, crows, blood (or blood like aether lol), etc.

In a general visual sense I do feel there is quite a bit of space with holy, gravity, and or earth, water, wind elemental oriented DD (elements that exist strongly in other roles, and maybe softly in DD- like I am aware of monk's earth stance but ... does that really count? lol). Naturally there could be non-element.

I imagine 2 DD, with less likely being 1 tank 1 DD. And 2 healers would mean the end of the world is nigh. Also I'm curious if they will add another limited job, personally was a bit distraught at release of blue mage as I had wanted to main it (still do) but I do, genuinely, appreciate a lot of the adjustments they made including more interesting spells later (only wish they would revamp some of the older release spells, my experience of leveling it was.. not good, but it's better now if not my wish for more 'valuable' spells, interesting combinations, and less old school in the sense of 'pain' type things like having to find a target for mimicry or stun-locking yourself with no means to cancel). In that, my thought was they add one that's a new concept to which they can focus on the fun and avoid a lot of the other stuff, like a Magitek Pilot / Operator (which now also might be able to benefit from Armored Core robot hype if that does well).

Not sure if it could be a full fledged DoL, but archelogy could be fun (personally imagining it built with chocobos / with hot and cold related mini-games, as to prevent the extra two buttons ad infinitum for "on and off mount" that currently exist as, imo, a slightly annoying part of the gameplay loop for gathering activities, and because I enjoyed FFIX's hot and cold ).. Limited DoL? Could just be a new system I suppose lol.

Beastmaster would be very cool, but I wonder how they'd take it- if it would be more of a partnership like WoW or if, and this is old memory, more of a burn and dump like FFXI (get a monster, have it help you and then have it die or betray you- lol). I have very fond memories of Hunter in WoW, primarily due to the beast aspect- the pet helped me do so much lol... while Titan-egi was a tanking god it gave me some memories of going solo as a hunter, really liked the egi for that (though I understand why it was nonsense for instanced content.... Ramuh Titan-egi tank).

Mystic Knight makes me think of Rune Fencer which I thought was neat looking in FFXI, though Rune Fencer to a lot of people now would sound like Death Knight due to mechanics but whatever lol the visual theme is different. Personally never really connected to the scimitar visually, even though BLU was my favorite in FFXI- not that it matters ultimately since at least a dual wielding scimitar would be more unique than greatsword lol. Curious what gimmick you would imagine it (Mystic Knight) would have?

Definitely an anything cool looking themed shape-shifting job is my top desire though, and unless it's an arithmetician I'll be excited to see any new ideas.

I'm expecting scouting ranged physical and a magic DPS for the same numbers-balancing reasons as everyone else.

    My bet:

They start going down to only 1 bonus job per expansion. Scouting seems like the most logical choice because it desperately needs a gear share.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Rogue turning into Ninja was a mistake. Ninja should have been its own job without a class. And Rogue should have turned into Thief at 30 with a soulstone. Of course, SE didn't have the idea of "jobs without classes" back in ARR. I wouldn't be surprised if looking back, developers feel that they "wasted" rogue and wish they could take that one back.

It's not an unfixable mistake. The only thing distinctly roguey/thiefy about NIN is Mug. Change that to something else and you can split it from rogue and make it a classless job, so rogue can be reworked into thief. It wouldn't be a technically difficult change to make at all; the rough part would be giving it an identity and playstyle distinct from NIN and any of the other melee jobs.

    1. This has never been stated by the dev team. This might be the case early on, but going forward they have specifically stated that they want FFXIV jobs to be original.
    2. This is [i]exactly[i] why Sage was chosen and developed. The dev team, and the Japanese in general are very symmetrical.
    3. No, they're not.
    4. I would say this is more true than an assumption. Anyone can come to this conclusion based on observation. In this case it would help to know where we are going in order to make job predictions.
    1) This does not mean they won't use what people want. YoshiP wanted Hrothgar, but gave us Viera because it's what people wanted.
    2) Just because they DID choose sage to fill a gap does not mean they are FORCED to.
    3) Jobs used to be straight up Ranged DPS and Melee DPS. Then it became "Physical" and "Magical" ranged. There is no reason to assume it can't eventually become organized by gear set. Or that BLU can't be moved to a "Limited Jobs" list.
    4) Again, the key point was location does >NOT< dictate job choices. Samurai being originally slotted for HW, and more recent jobs really not having anything to do with anything until they added lore to make it appear related.

They should really mix things up with a Magical Melee DPS. Wouldn't that be something.

OOOOO imagine if they did like a face-heel turn and made DRK a dps job! It would be so divisive you'd think ARR happened all over again! Man, this game needs a shot in the arm, this is what I'm saying.
