Trying to go through what is going on 9 years worth of story in a short time is a pretty bad idea. Can some still be trimmed? Sure, but the story is one of the main selling points of the game.
If you don't like it, maybe the game isn't for you.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
The impression I got from their initial post is that they're apparently trying to essentially speed run alt's into endgame content.
Alts are another thing this game really... REALLY doesn't like you investing in.
Sometimes it feels like the other character slots are more obligatory "this is an MMO so obviously they have to have these options" than something that functions. I appreciate being able to get all the things on one character, but conversely it seems like they should've just left it at that. Let you make the one character that you can get all the things on, and don't bother with having other character slots.
Fully agreed. People need to realize that Final Fantasy XIV was never meant to be everyone's "main game". It's a part-time, mostly-single-player game that you beat and put back on the shelf once you're done. It cannot possibly please anyone, and never had the potential to compete with World of Warcraft or other big-name MMOs. It's a smaller, niche product that appeals to a very small segment of the population.
The real problem is the wave of streamers and "e-celebs" who marketed FFXIV as a WoW replacement back in 2021 when it clearly wasn't supposed to be. 1.3 million players is unhealthy and unsustainable for a game this niche, as it creates unrealistic expectations. The developers don't want this to be the next WoW. They didn't even want to make 2.0: they had to, to avoid a total collapse of their company. And everything since then was carrying the weight of those mistakes to please shareholders.
This game had a hard life. Anyone expecting anything from Square Enix (you know, the NFT company) is in for a rude awakening.
