The mentor system is primarily a filling roulette. In fact, it doesn’t even prioritize instances with new players but just puts people where there’s a need for the chosen role.

Comms also don’t mean much: if you run with premades, you don’t get any (understandable), if you are on a dps they are much harder to get than on a healer or even a tank (if you are not rezzing in a full party, hope a healer notices you’re not taking avoidable damage and cares enough to give comms or something like that). If you run on a healer with a matched party, it is very likely you’ll get comms for err…just being a healer. Tank is hit or miss but you get more than on a dps if you half know what you are doing. Then there’s glamours, portraits, etc. Btw, I never give comms to people who use sounds or long text macros regardless of how they do as I find it irritating. Most of them end up on my block list.

As for the content requiring to unlock the roulette, it doesn’t require much either. All extremes can be completed unsynched. Maybe there should be a requirement to complete them at min iLvl with no echo and it might mean something.

Sounds like the guy wants a parse to me. You might not have directly said that you expect a mentor to know everything in or remember how a fight works, but your grading scale that changes during the fight(?) would be doing just that. Your Op is also heavily suggesting that if the mentor doesn't give advice post wipe that they're a bad. Not everyone is going to want advice or even listen to said advice. Heck not everyone wants to hear about mechanics going into a fight. Some fights are mechanic heavy that trying to explain them all takes up too much time. That and until a wipe happens you don't know if the later mechanics should even be brought up.

I also haven't seen people flock to wherever the rare crown wearer is. The dorito wearer? Heck yes and even then I've had that person get me dead (HI 3rd Puppet's Bunker boss amongst others).

Someone disagrees with you so their feelings are hurt… ok

The whole thread so far disagrees with you. Maybe your idea isn’t great? Could just go back to the drawing board or become the change you want to see

lets be real, the content that sprouts do at this point (MSQ and all instanced building threw that) is so scaled down to the point it can just be face rolled till 81+, that mentors really are not needed anymore, i think the last boss of ather chemical research facility is about the only moderate fight you get till EW from a dungeon.. mentor exist now to back fill omega raids while sprouts sit for 2 hours per to fill all 12 normal fights.. savage and extremes and ultimate are on you to learn, you cant expect someone to have to or want to explain all those mechanics threw chat..

it doesn't take a badge to help, but the badge doesn't mean they have to play the game for you either, dont expect more that your willing to put in from the mentors you are judging.

In my experience, mentors are usually very good with mechanics and when I see someone with a crown they seem to know what they are doing. But they are not perfect. Sometimes they die. Or sometimes the content is braindead and they fell sleep doing it and forgot a basic mechanic.

Where a mentor has a good chance of not knowing mechanics is if they are a crafter/gatherer mentor, because many people become one of these before even completing the MSQ, whereas an average battle mentor actually has 1,500 commendations and 1,000 dungeons/trials/raids worth of experience and all classes/jobs leveled.

I do find sprouts follow me more lately and usually this is fine, but I'm not perfect either. It's like copying someone's homework. What if they get a question wrong? Then you are going to get it wrong too.

I agree with your suggestion, but I don't see SE going that deep with it.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

No. You're the one that got their feelings hurt and trying to make it seem like they are the crazy one. People are agreeing with them. Not you. And not even a little bit.

When I was a sprout I don't think I EVER noticed a mentor symbol while in a duty and followed them blindly. I just followed whoever was closest to me that wasn't the tank lol. This isn't an issue. Real sprouts aren't paying attention to mentors, they're just trying to press buttons and have fun.

I think the bar set for mentors is a touch high actually. Or at least, the perception of those like the OP. Mentors aren't experts in everything. Keep in mind, it isn't like mentors get to choose what dungeon/trial/etc they get in roulette.

Now, if a mentor says "follow me" and puts the symbol over their own heads and leads the lemmings off a cliff, maybe it is a different story.
