I would also have reported that player as griefing. If what you stated in the OP is true, what that healer did was grief and harassment by wasting your time.

It's not okay. Kicking him from the party was the first correct step.I'm writing this because I've always heard about it, but it never happened to me until now. I was doing roulettes, the level 50-60-70-80 dungeons and we get Grand Cosmos. I'm leveling dragoon and in the team we have a level 90 gunbreaker, level 90 astrologian and a 81 level sprout dancer doing this to proceed with MSQ. We reach the final boss all good, and then the astrologian for some reason refuses to engage with any mechanic of the boss. We wipe 3 times in a row because he died instantly and couldn't heal the tank and us from the AOE's and the fires.
I and the gunbreaker explained all the mechanics to him, he said "Ok" and dies immediately again on next pull. I check his search info to see if he is a new player and I notice he has 3 classes levelled to level 90 and multiple others at various levels ranging 60-80.
I believe he was trolling, the sprout understood the mechanics from the first pull because we told him pre-pull, but a level 90 player with multiple classes can't do a single one? We wiped 5+ times in a row because he couldn't survive the first one and because we had no Warrior the tank couldn't heal me or himself to solo.
What are you supposed to do in this case? We vote kicked him after 6 wipes in a row and because he is a healer we waited so long to get a new one that we decided to just abandon duty all together. I just felt sad for the sprout dps that had to wait again in queue because some person just couldn't be bothered to engage with the mechanics. I was afraid to even say anything to him aside from explaining mechanics because I knew I would get reported for being "toxic".
The other step would have been to report the player for uncooperative behavior. That is also against the Terms of Service. They were not even attempting to perform their rule, intentionally preventing the party from completing the fight.
FF14 is the only game i've ever played where you can be max level and there is no expectation that you actually know anything at all about the game whatsoever. Don't confuse this with optimal or near optimal play, I am saying the barest of bare minimum, and people cannot be expected to know that....at level 90 XD. No kardia Sages, No dancer partner dancers, Tech step used before we are even near the boss in alliance raids, no tank stance tanks, dps that cant even do 1 2 3 because all they press is 1 every so often. The list goes on and on
Cause didn't you know they're new? /sFF14 is the only game i've ever played where you can be max level and there is no expectation that you actually know anything at all about the game whatsoever. But seriously, yeah, this is the only game I've played where max levels can not know a single thing about their class or even just how combat works and still get defended to high hell by others.
I have seen the excuse of "chill, they're new" in a level 90 dungeon because it was the person's first time doing the dungeon. Oh, my bad, I wasn't aware that not knowing the mechs of a duty means you don't have to know how to AoE at 90.
If Square Enix starts banning people for being bad at the game, as you all suggest, wouldn’t most players get banned too? Don’t pretend that the average player isn’t a 1-button-pressing “I play it for the story” casual who shakes it at “the club” after their instance.
You don’t want FFXIV to become toxic like World or Warcraft, do you? You know, the boogeyman game?
Reading some of these comment make me wonder:
- Are you new to MMO?
- Are you just extremely lucky in all other MMO except this game?
- Do you just happen to have selective memory?
- Maybe it's just confirmation bias?
- Are you someone living inside a guild/static bubble that only occasionally brave the wilder world?
Because the question:
How the heck can someone be at max level and still be this clueless?
Has been a meme as old as MMO itself. I know asked myself that question since ... 20 years ago? And I still occasionally ask that question now and then, in virtually every MMO I play. Like ... people make it sounds like the rift between casual and hardcore only exist in FF14. That rift exist everywhere, even among the most casual or the most hardcore MMO you can think off, and that particular question is like the dead horse of that conflict.![]()
Today I ran into a SGE in Level 90 roulette who was somehow managing to repeatedly run out of MP, when they ran out of MP they'd declare "mana break" and do nothing for several minutes, when the WAR brought this up, SGE started demanding the WAR to "block or parry plz"(word for word quote), and saying they were "getting hit by every auto attack", AKA literally how this game works when you have aggro.
Shit happens, people will suck and short of literally banning people for poor performance, there nothing that can be really done, you just sigh and move on, and hope the argument won't make you miss any S rank marks.
It's already toxic, just not the "Your trash" kind but the "You're a tryhard" kind.If Square Enix starts banning people for being bad at the game, as you all suggest, wouldn’t most players get banned too?
