So, as a gut feeling on why the hairstyle looks wrong on some races and fine on others, I don't think it's so much about the ears as the shape of the hair on top of the head.

For example, it looks better on female Viera than male, despite them apparently having all the same base issues.

I think it comes down to how the hair looks from a side view. On some models, it follows the curve of the head correctly; on others, it bulges oddly on top, and I think that is the main factor that makes it look uncanny on some characters.

Really not my cup of tea. It looks absolutely dreadful, would not use on any race. Probably the first hair style I'll actively avoid getting, don't even want it just to have it.
