Question for the people who don't dislike the 2nd relic step

I don't mind grinding tomes for a relic. It does feel pretty lame that step 2 is identical to step 1.

The second step of the ARR relic was released in 2.0, not a later patch. We've waited 15 months for this seconds step. It's disingenuous to compare this to the second step to ARR when in reality the length of the relic quest has halved and we have to wait half an expansion to even start it.

By patch 2.38 (compared to 6.35 we are in now) there were the base weapon step, Zenith, Atma, Animus, Novus and Nexus. 6 steps that were all different. Both the Zodiac relic and the Hildebrand relic have only two more updates after patch X.4, which means that half of this relic is just collecting 3000 tomes and that's it. What a disgrace.

This as well. The relic gets delayed more and more each expansion, and having steps this small this late feel bad as well.

I'm also the type of person who only makes 1 or 2 relics so these smaller steps don't keep me busy for long.

Not everything has to be some nasty grind. Maybe I don't want to be forced into one activity over and over again until I hate it. That's why I like it.

And where is this choice, EO and criterion don’t even give you the tomes you need for the relic, if you want the tomes (and don’t somehow already have them) it’s time for A2N and circus tower for the 807th time

Criterion may not but Variant does.

Saigaskin, Kumbhira and Ophiotaurus treasure maps will give Astronomy (with the latter two also giving Causality in the dungeons).

Speaking of dungeons you have all the level 90 dungeons that reward Astronomy.

Level 90 trials (normal or EX) - more Astronomy

Asphodelos and Abyssos normal - look, Astronomy there too.

You've got the ability to customize your own relic grind to be as long or short as you want. Go kill Endsinger on Normal 150 times or is that still not enough of a grind for you?

For info, from the patch notes:
Complete floor 10 for 20 Astronomy tomes;
Complete floor 20 for 40 Astronomy tomes;
Complete floors 30+ for 60 Astronomy tomes.

So the person you quoted even lied about Eureka Orthos not giving you tomes (for the record, it awards ALL types of tomes).

I'm pretty baffled that some players are defending the implementation of this step, and I want to get your reasoning for it. Is it because it isn't a grind that is set in stone (e.g run x raid y amount of times)? Does the step being the same as the first one not bother you? Do you not mind it, but wish it was somehow different? I just want to know/understand.

I know that the forum's cluttered with the topic, but I figured that a thread specifically for this question wouldn't (hopefully) instantly devolve into flame wars and name calling.

I raid savage/ultimates, the relic is not BiS now, so why waste my time grinding for the sake of wasting time....have to do it in many jobs for collection purpose, this method easy....

So just pretend is *Light* farming and go do the same raid/dungeon 50x (grinding light=tomestomes). Next pick another dungeon for imaginary light aka tomestomes than repeat another 50x....just pretend is was light farming because that apparently was good stuff for many lol

They changed that years ago, which is why I consider the Zenith step the 2nd step.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. To me, the 2nd step is based on when "Zodiac Weapons - The Saga Begins" pops up on the screen, which is at the start of the Atma quest.

Again, I don't consider getting the Antiquated to be the first step. Upgrading it to the unantiquated form is the first step. Upgrading it to the Anemos weapon is the 2nd step (because + doesn't count).

So does this mean that you're considering the 2nd step of the Eureka weapon to not be as easy, then? Considering going from Unantiquated to Anemos requires 1200 Protean Crystals, reaching Elemental level 19, and obtaining 3 Pazuzu Feathers. Unless you think this is as easy as farming up 1500 uncapped tomestones? Keep in mind that the option to purchase Pazuzu Feathers didn't exist back then.

This doesn't take away from the fact that this second step is entirely lazy in how they didn't even bother to dress it up as anything interesting, and feels more like a last minute copy paste job.

Because I'm a rather casual player with limited gametime who also plays several other games, one of which (Destiny 2) just launched an entire new expansion and is currently my "main" game while I enjoy playing thru that. When I come back around to FFXIV in a bit, this is a nice convenient step that'll let me pick up a couple relic weapons while doing basically whatever I want (read: enjoy most) in the game. Artificially long grinds aren't necessarily a good thing in my view.

This just means that you're not the target audience for a weapon that originally required a grind. The game generally has a non-grindy alternative when it comes to weapons for players who either don't want to put in the time, or don't have enough time to grind. Weapons like the (augmented) crafted weapons, the extreme trial ones, and possibly even the unaugmented tomestone ones.

it feels like everything else in this game. they streamline the heck out of it snd cut down everything to its bare existence, so in the end its all the same.... deja-vu?
