Another "fun" tank tonight! This time in World of Darkness.

This WAR's HP is yoyo-ing like mad, so I'm wondering "What is this tank wearing, tissue paper?" I inspect them, and... two of their pieces are Level 35 from Sunken Temple of Qarn. Another two are linen mage pieces with MIND/INT on them. Clearly, they either didn't do their Job Quests, or they were intentionally not wearing the gear rewards from them just to be a troll.

I commented to them in chat about their "interesting" gear choices, and they laughed it off. The other healer was like "Yeah, ha ha, hope the raid gives you some level 50 tank gear!" to which the tank replied "nah i want xp not gear."

Surprisingly, they were not doing this to cheese Alliance Raid roulette for Crystal Tower, as their WAR was only level 55 and that's the only raid they could do anyway. So, they were just being bad for bad's sake. It wasn't a newbie mistake either, as they have played multiple jobs including two other tanks at 90. They knew what they were doing. Apparently they got tired of their own nonsense halfway through as they dropped their tank stance and then whined that the other tanks weren't picking up aggro fast enough for their liking.

They GTFO'd the instant the raid was over -- I guess they really were serious about not wanting new gear!

I was THIS CLOSE to reporting them afterwards, but to be honest I'm not even sure this is technically against the Terms of Service and probably wouldn't get actioned anyway. I have no way of proving the intent behind their shenanigans, and I'm sure the GMs have seen it all. But man, this kind of clown behaviour should not be allowed to happen in the first place. Why can a tank even enter a raid in caster threads and not having done their job quests?

Took me a while but finally found someone who told me to NEVER use a ranged/caster LB on mobs in a dungeon. Gotta save that LB against Stone Vigil final boss, I guess?

I'll commend any Ranged DPS that LBs the trash pulls. It's just so rare to see it, even in expert roulette. I usually pop the LB after the end of the dungeon as healer/tank to remind people that it existed.

I don't play DPS often(although I'll usually play SMN if I do), and I always feel so apprehensive about using it myself too because I expect exactly what happened to you. I'm waiting for the day where it does still though, thankfully.

It is better to use the LB on a group of trash in a dungeon, in my opinion, especially if the tank pulls big. It shaves off more time this way than using it on a boss, waiting a second or two to finish casting and dealing a negligible amount of damage to it when it could have been dead before the LB finished casting.

Totally agree - but, from experience, some players tend to act like you've committed the ultimate fail if you use LB on anything other than the final boss.

i definitely use caster/phys range lb2 on Aglaia/Euphrosyne trash

Rare for me too - but have had a few instances of someone in the team saying 'WTF dude' when have used LB to dispose of trash mobs, which makes me a bit wary of using it that way again.

Pity really - as was discussed, it's a bit of a waste when used on a near-dead final boss really.

In hindsight I should have used the Auto-Translate feature, but since I never have so far I felt awkward to try figuring out how to do it now. They might not have had an English client so couldn't get where "Esuna" and "Role Actions" are.

It's no excuse for them not knowing Role Actions, but depending on your language settings it can get confusing. Before I read the forums here I didn't know what Esuna was because in the German client and every FF game I remember, that skill is called Medica. To make things worse the White Mage skills Reseda and Resedra are called Medica I and II in English.
Skills having different names in different languages is one thing but I don't know what genius thought it'd be a good idea to use the same name for different skills in a MMO played on multi-language servers...


Besides that, I don't have a specific tale. Rather an observation: levelling my tanks to 90 in Alliance Raid roulette made me hate other tank players.
The things I've seen range from general aggro ping-pong to tanks in absolute trash gear that want to main tank and me almost ripping aggro from them with auto attacks or people provoking adds that have to be separated like they are Pokemon.

And I think I should apologize to all the poor tanks that had to endure me while levelling Sage some time ago. I wanted to like it, watched/read guides but still failed pretty hard. That class just didn't click for me and it was 20 levels of pure suffering for me and the tanks

I can only count on one hand on how many times I’ve seen the “why LB vs packs” sentiment directed at myself when I unleash it though none really sparked tension whenever I replied: “Because it’s stronger vs multiple target.”

I think I've only ever seen it once or twice myself while playing BRD, RDM or SMN. I just ignored them. lol

I would settle for melee that actually use a LB on a boss if it is still available...so many times when tanking/healing you see the boss down to .1% before they even contemplate using it. I've used it more often than not lately when I go as DNC...and the boss is usually at around 20%
