Dungeon Roulette: Castrum Abania (Level 69 dungeon near end of Stormblood)
The Dark Knight doesn't have their tank stance on, and when asked to put it on they have no idea what I'm talking about. I tell them it's called "Grit," and to just keep it active for the dungeon. They do, and say sorry and that they are new (almost through Stormblood MSQ and are "new," okay buddy). From there on out, it's single pulls all the way and I'm pretty sure they did not use any damage mitigation or even an AoE, but we all keep a good vibe and the DRK is responsive to advice. They didn't stand in the circle they were supposed to during the first boss, but they managed to figure out the elemental-shifting mechanic so that's better than some players I've seen!
After the first boss, the DRK doesn't move for a while and says "LEAD ME." They apologize for the accidental all-caps and explain they don't know where to go. Um, there's only one way to go, you can't get lost, lol. But okay, we kind of drag them along for a while and eventually they seem to get more comfortable moving along. Grit falls off at some point, but I catch it before any disasters occur and remind them.
All in all, I can't say it was a terrible time and the other players were also patient and understanding. And no wipes! But for curiosity's sake, I did go snoop that Dark Knight's lodestone profile after we finished. They had multiple jobs at level 70, and even a couple at 80, as well as a bunch of other jobs at various stages. They played other tank jobs somewhat, though their 70 DRK was their highest. Anyway, I hope they had fun and will continue to learn, but... man, how do you get to 70 and not know to use a tank stance? I almost wonder if we were playing with some kid using their parent's account or something.![]()

I had a similar incident. Dead Ends (it's always freaking Dead Ends). I was WAR, healer was SGE, and then there were a melee and a ranged DD. Of course, we all started getting swatted by the boss's wind AoEs, admittedly me as well, and getting Necrosis. Our ranged was BRD but their cleanse has a cooldown, so they really weren't ready for how many times we got hit by that stuff. The healer was the first to each time, and they didn't Esuna anything.
At first I threw out just an "Esuna" in chat, but after the first wipe it all went the same. Two more pulls, two more wipes. I remember being at that boss for 15 minutes at the very least. Then, the healer pipes up. Asks how to remove the "blue" debuff. I say "Esuna". They ask, Esuna? I explain it's under their Role Actions. They still can't find it. So I go in better detail, asking them to press P, check the tabs on the side, pick Role, and then choose the blue icon. The BRD also chimes in with similar advice. They take a moment, and find it.
We pull again, and wipe once more because the healer forgets to cleanse themselves when they get the debuff, and because I'm also a bad player I do the same right after. Healer apologizes, and then our next pull was the final one, with them cleansing whenever needed. The next bosses go mostly okay - Ra La was our cleanest. In total 40 minutes spent in there.

To get ALL they way to the end and not only not know what Esuna is...but not know what a Role Action is absolutely amazing.I had a similar incident. Dead Ends (it's always freaking Dead Ends). When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.

In hindsight I should have used the Auto-Translate feature, but since I never have so far I felt awkward to try figuring out how to do it now. They might not have had an English client so couldn't get where "Esuna" and "Role Actions" are.

I appreciate the heads up when I'm healing or tanking, and do the same myself. You gotta do it to learn how to do it, and get good at it. Its when people don't even try, ignore advice ir get pissy when it becomes a problem.
WHM / BLM / SMN / NIN/ DNC / Omnicrafter and Gatherer

Cutter's Cry with a mentor all-jobs-at-90 WHM that was so active that the other DPS died from boss dots twice and I also got a close call![]()
It's not about getting heads up. As someone said "Don't be sorry, be better". When someone in lvl 60 dungeon acting like cure bot or single targeting mobs or not using any cds, you know "Sorry knew" can be translated as "l'm going to screw up. Deal with it or leave".

It is better to use the LB on a group of trash in a dungeon, in my opinion, especially if the tank pulls big. It shaves off more time this way than using it on a boss, waiting a second or two to finish casting and dealing a negligible amount of damage to it when it could have been dead before the LB finished casting.
i think ranged lb1 on three enemies does already more dmg than melee lb2?
and the cast time is shorter, and lb2 isnt always full either
