FXIV Fan Fest 2023 Las Vegas Tickets

I really hope we get clarification on this from SE. Is that 15k number wrong, or is it just talking about the number of pre-sale tickets, maybe? Even if we take ongoing Covid precautions or whatever into account 15k is an absurdly low number for a venue that size. If 15k was really the plan why have it in a massive Vegas convention center at all? Something just feels off about this.

Another convention is happening at the LVCC the same weekend so they're sharing the space. No idea how big the other is, or if that had any bearing on how many people could attend Fanfest (it could have, who knows). The casino rooms are much smaller and hold less, so if 15k is accurate, it's already nearly double the amount of the previous in-person Fanfest which was 8-9k people, and it's much larger than the first which was like ~4-5k people.

Don't get me wrong, another 5k people to make it 20k would have been great, but I can only have some salt for that if they were capped off by a bigger convention taking more people for safety reasons.

Were previous Fanfests really that small? I've never gone to one, but all this time I've been picturing them as more like 20k+ person events.

They were, yes. The first in 2014 was like, 3-5k people, 2016 was 5-7k, 2018 was 8-9k. 2018 was around the same time that demand to go started growing exponentially (and it didn't help that ticket sales were crap that year, lot more angry people over 2018 than this year) so the shift to a larger venue to hold almost double 2018's numbers was going to happen eventually. The 2020 one that was cancelled due to covid was supposed to be at the SDCC where they have Comic Con, which is about the same size as the LVCC. The previous Fanfests were held in the casino convention halls which hold much less than an actual convention center - 2014 and 2018 happened at the Rio, and 2016 happened at the Paris. There was an issue with 2016 with doors being blocked to the point where the fire marshal came out to yell at everyone about it (LineCon for merch was not fun, would not recommend lol) but the room was packed full even then.

I didn't even bother with it. The price is too outrageously high before you even figure in the lottery garbage.
