Voice acting related / but touches on translation as well....

I just read a recent interview with Yoshi-P. He actually asked the reporter what he thought of the voice acting (in English). The reporter actually didn't listen to the english VA and listened to Japanese version only. Yoshi-P actually loled and said, "of course you like the Japanese version, because you like Japanese (things)." <-- paraphrasing here.

Then Yoshi-P moved on and said many of the Japanese players (German, and France, etc), are not too happy with their versions of VA too.

Final Fantasy IV trying to play off Kain as not being in love with Rosa and just wanting to be 'liked' was a travesty. "What is wrong?" being turned into "Is ought amiss"? I need an example of how the story is being told different, now how two phrases with the exact same meaning are worded different, if I'm going to agree with the point the OP is trying to make.

People will always like a language they know nothing about over their own because they don't live in that region and not taking in their culture andsuch on a daily basis. the Japanese find English fascinating or "cool" yet we who speak/hear it everyday are either indifferent or in more extreme cases think it's shit and Japanese/French,German/etc is the end all, be all language. The grass is indeed not green, people are just color blind. :P

All I'm saying is that OP has his head up his ass. I'm sure I much rather the translations and the different cultural references put in rather than a literal translation.

Anyone who has seen the first episode of The Boondocks in Japanese will understand what I mean when I say it sounds REALLY WEIRD hearing a cultural reference from country A being translated into Language B.

Am I missing something or is there very little voice acting? I haven't gotten too far, but I've only run into voice acting in the Ul'dah starter narration.

What's funny is, when I googled "ought," the first definition I found was "Archaic variant of 'aught.'" Though, yeah, perhaps they should avoid archaic variants that are identical to modern uses of different words. Have you posted this over in the Localization section?

There's much more voice-acting in the cut scenes during your level 20 class quests.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

This thread itself is from right around early access for 2.0. Have you seen this same thought echoed in recent days?

Life is cyclical. Largely the same. The faces change, yet the thoughts remain.

Sometimes problems are intrinsic to the cyclical nature of life. Does this endless parade weigh heavy for you, or can you take it in stride?

Indeed, people still act as if the English version is a "translation" instead of the reality that the English and Japanese versions are developed together. The English version is not "mistranslating" anything; it is its own version.

And yes, some of the complaints still boil down to the OP's original issue with "What is wrong?" vs. "Is aught amiss?" (In other words, they're complaining about nothing of actual substance.)
