That's what vote abandon is for. If you just want to rage quit that's a personal problem.

and when that doesn't work and you're trapped in someone's wipekink sesh?
Is your position that there is no acceptable number of wipes that justifies using a feature that is literally built into the duty menu without suffering penalty?
Because, I'm not like expecting to go from the floor to the exit. This was exceptionally bad. This was the first mechanic of the fight **every** time.

Then cut your losses after wipe 2, 30 minutes arent that long and you probably need a mental break after that anyway. What duty was it btw?and when that doesn't work and you're trapped in someone's wipekink sesh?

Aetherochemical Facility on Ascian Prime. The mechanic in question was the first fire/ice stars. Both the tank and I had explained to hug ice and avoid fire, and that the short tethers will resolve first, followed by the long tethers.
Kinda made worse by the fact that the mechanics are also in the first phase.

Sounds kind of like The Dead Ends party I was in last night. The healer was having a lot of problems with the first boss and first mechanic in there, and we wiped I think four times. Maybe even five. It's just one of those dungeon bosses where the healer has to stay alive if there isn't another job capable of rezz, or it's a wipe. I am of the mind that you should actually embrace the opportunity when the stakes are that high especially if you're the healer in that situation, because they are few and far between in normal mode content.and when that doesn't work and you're trapped in someone's wipekink sesh?

That's not a consolation. And how do you know any of the other players left after you did. It's actually a very rewarding experience when players are having trouble, but they stick together and figure out how to get it done anyway. That's what you abandoned bub, and penalty well deserved for it too.I did leave, I also warned the party prior to attempt 5 that I would leave regardless of how the abandon vote went.
My only consolation is the other person stuck in that hell got to leave without penalty.

That built in feature is your get out jail card, but it's not your free get out of jail card. The "Abandon" is the free card, but it requires party majority. If the Abandon motion isn't pass, that means the majority want to stay, how bad you think is irrelevant. You can still choose to leave despite the majority will, but obviously there gonna be something you have to trade off for.
I usually stay in those situation, easy way to get comm for your trouble.
