So.. going back and reading it again.. they told you, what parameter it fell in and here's the gist of it.. Clean up your language? No, seriously. We were taught this as a child that there is a way to talk to people and somehow you stepped on someones toes enough to actually warrant a strike against your account.

Imagine one day you receive a 250$ ticket for a speeding bill with a threat of jail time if you don't pay. But there is no citation of time and location, nor your speed at the time of the offend. So you either have to search your memory for the last days/week/months/years where did you speed, or whether you actually sped at all.

Can't remember, suck it up and pay anyway, you're already guilty because the police said so. ... Will you just take it?

On the subject of how children is taught today ...

The sad part is ... I wish it was just a meme. Maybe it is, but it's about also as real as it can get given the state of modern society.

So you will excuse me if I don't believe "someone get offended on the internet" is a proper allegation against someone else, especially when all relevance evidence is withhold.

How exactly are you supposed to check what you say if you can accidentally offend some random person in an unknown way?

This is part of why 14 has an absolutely garbage punishment system. You can't improve if you have no idea what you did wrong, and being forced to walk on eggshells like Square seems to think is appropriate is NOT the answer.
Wasn't really my intention, but it did bring out the point I was trying to make. Subjectivity kills in this situation. No matter what, you are wrong in what you do. I've just taken the point to just not say anything in game anymore (hardly at all) unless I am explaining a fight. Other than that, unfortunately not here to chit-chat and make friends, because people will be offended by pretty much anything said.

Not really a fair analogy - when you get a ticket, you are explained the reason, and receive a copy of it in writing along with the reason. The officer would explain what you did wrong. That's what allegedly being missed, and this is a one-sided story we are hearing. Thank god for body cams, lol. GMs can read the chat logs and see the offense, that's what they have. They should include it in the warning - as most other gaming GMs/moderators, and names can even be left out of who reported the person. Thing is - they can do it however they want until the wheel either gets squeaky enough to get the grease and it's fixed, or they turn up the radio so they can't hear it.

Huh, do people really have that much difficulty NOT being a dick? I mean, avoid sex, race, religion and politics, and you're basically completely safe. Combine that with being kind to people and you'll be fine. It's ironic that the same people complaining about someone being sensitive are being JUST as sensitive as those they're accusing.

I didn't mentioned because I thought the context is clear enough, but my example is for when the ticket came through the mail, not when you get flagged down on the spot.

I figured you hadn't intended it the way it came across, but it was a good jumping point for me to make a statement so there's that. I agree the safest thing to do is just not talk to people, but realistically there's not REALLY a need for such draconian measures. It just sucks that people can report you for offering advice in dungeons (no matter how polite you come across, go take a gander at r/tales of duty finder), or someone can decide to be spiteful and trick you into saying something reportable. Thankfully I assume in most cases the GMs see through such bs, but you never know what slips through (because technically telling someone how to play their job better is kind of against TOS).

I mean, not being a dick is easy, but perception is everything - it's so easy for people to misunderstand or take something you say out of context and find offense in it.

It's kind of sad that the best way to play this MMO is "Don't talk to anyone you don't know already"

I find your condescending tone offensive.

See how easy it is? Having more information about the offense is not a bad thing. It could have been something as simple as a swear, or a nickname toward a friend that someone else didn't like. The way Gen Z is today, having more info isn't a bad thing.

I've played since ARR all the way to now, the one time I got a warning was back in Stormblood namely in eureka. Some jackass kept making fun of me for asking about NMs & items as a new player in there. It wasn't once or twice, they kept making fun of my questions and once I left the party it continued in shout. Told them to fuck off and get a better hobby, few days after I got yanked to the gaol.

It's a messy system, you're pretty much allowed to be a total dipshit loser and aggravate people just so you could report them after and you would go scot free. Provided, yes saying big bad words like "shit" or "fuck" is a big no-no, but then again people get offended by names, fc slogans, house greeting, and you not saying hello to them... You gotta guess and figure it out apparently.
I don’t think you understand how the process works.

If what you say offends someone enough to report you, and that report is accepted by a GM who agrees what you said merits punishment, you are in the wrong. Seriously, GMs are not going to punish people over things like not saying hello…

You got baited by a troll, and your colorful language got you in jail. Lesson learned hopefully- block the idiots and move on.
