People are nuts. You see it in the real world all the time too, and the game is just a reflection of that.
I still haven't experience this sort of interaction, in six years of playing.

What I find usually happens is a suggestion/criticism is made, like "keep the bosses apart" or "don't pull them there" or "what are these whack waymarkers!?" and it's either left there or others end up agreeing.

It makes me wonder... is this a NA thing? Because I'm EU.

When you restrict speech and ideas, you restrict freedoms of the individual. A lot of extremeists are driving the paradigm right now and social cooling has repressed a lot of the freedoms we have been able to freely express.

This is where satire saves the day.

Are we sure it's people getting more easily offended ? Could it that people were always offended, just in the past they hid it, and now they have no more patience for your nonsense, and don't shy away from letting you know.

Devs ironed out their harassment policy a couple of times now between then and now.
Might have something to do with it.

Absence of an issue in your life doesn't mean the issue is absent at all.

As you haven't seen it in all your years of playing, there are many others that have in the same amount of time. Hell I was harassed so badly by someone in my first year of playing this game that I left the Aether DC and never went back, among other things. People definitely are a little stir crazy in this game.

But that's just my 2 cents. At the end of the day I just don't speak unless spoken to in-game, I sleep easier.

I can second this as one of the big things people get offended over. If you tell someone you dont like them spamming chat with their text macros that others have complimented them on they get so angry. Perhaps they need to understand there is other people that dont think its funny nor do they like seeing people’s text macro every 30sec-2mins but alas they think they are in the right.

Honestly? Yes, it's a NA thing. This would explain a lot since you're on EU and might not be seeing it.

I gotta say that yes, I do think that the community is very sensitive... in a particular way I often don't see in online games. And I'm not even talking about jokes.

This week, we warned a newbie tank that he had to turn on his tank stance. When he couldn't find his lvl 10 skill at first, he told us that he would leave the dungeon in order to not cause us trouble. We had to spam quickly and convince him that there was no need for that, he just had to push a button.

I have seen people truly, deeply, extremely hurt because you wouldn't reciprocate their emote, go to their online wedding, buy their whole family-roleplay-thingy going on (why is that so common? lmao). It's SO weird.

There was a FC in which a group of people started to dislike another group of people because they did a lot of conversation on the FC chat? Uh?? Or another dude that was very, very sad, to the point of leaving the FC, because some people wouldn't get into his butler-rp-talk. And someone changed his "butler" status back when they were changing the FC name.

The other point of the stick is true as well: you have people that really feel like someone spamming emotes or a macro are very annoying, to the point that it's worth making a commentary over it. Something has to be literally impossible to deal with in order for me to type on the chat tbh. 99% of the time I won't ever see that person again. It's weird all around.

I believe that the reasons for that are first the second-lifesque aspect of the game actually brings people that treat their characters as something more than a fluffy game and thus, weird attitude and... well, ffxiv is a mmo, like lotro, full of people that usually don't play other games, or other mmos at all, which definetly plays a role in how they deal with somewhat-normal-things-from-online-games.

That being said, this has very little do to with the "people are so sensitive!! it's the WOKE generation" discourse that we often see from conservatives that are sad that they can't make their bad jokes any longer without someone telling them to shut up.

No one can take a joke anymore and criticism might as well be death threats the way this community behaves at times.
Hell, I'd believe half of them were still attached to their umbilical cord given how sensitive they are.

I used to run into those people a lot way back, still see the rare occurrence here and there.
What I found is, once you stop giving a damn you run into them less and less which ironically feeds into itself (ignoring it can save you headaches but also means some stupidity goes unchecked)
