This is true, but there are ongoing crises all the time at varying levels of severity. SE picks some to turn-off auto-demolition and others to leave it on.

Honestly I wish they just permanently turned it off and gave players an option to resell their plot and get the same amount back that they would have if they let it auto-demo. There is always something unfortunate that is happening in the world and it never feels good to see the company pick someone else's tragedy and ignore your own. It also will never take into account personal tragedy that can pull someone away from the game for a long time and punish them for that as SE won't provide any recompense for that.

I bet there are several thousand more players that have lost their houses due to various reasons beyond their control than those that would have lost their houses from the ukraine war and now the earthquake in turkey. IF SE really cared about it and weren't just virtue signalling, then they would implement a system within the account options to temporarily suspend auto demolition for a period of time on a case by case basis.

And if these crisis's are that significant that they would rather inconvenience millions of players over a few hundred, then they should really make it a priority to develop such a system urgently.

Large enough for them to decide to disable demolition for EU. There have been disasters of similar magnitude in other parts of the world that haven't caused them to disable demolition, presumably because the game doesn't serve those regions or there weren't enough registered players.

That doesn't really wash. When they shut it off for the hurricanes in the US, all of the data centres were shut off. When the Ukraine conflict started, all of the data centres were shut off. A few more instances as well.
