"We made a crappy design that limits supply in the face of the demand we'd have, which has been growing as our game gets more popular. So instead of reworking the system or having better supply, we punish players who managed to enter."The problem is that the underlying housing system is dogshit and auto demolition was a necessary evil to keep players active or reclaim their plot so someone else could use it. Circumstances aside, constantly disabling that system defeats the purpose of it. It spent a year disabled due to the war in Ukraine and is now disabled again after a month. I appreciate Square Enix wanting to give a gesture of good will to players that might be impacted but if they really want players to not lose things, actually build a housing system that guarantees everyone a house.
I also think it's fair that active players, potentially those that have spent months trying to get a house or move up to a larger plot (of which there are less), might be annoyed by this. The one mechanic that's designed to keep housing plots available if players go inactive, regardless of why, probably shouldn't be disabled as much as it has been historically.
Also, before anyone claims salt, I have a personal housing plot. Lich, Ward 26, Plot 12.
