Eh, Metacritic includes both a critic and user review score. If these are similar, there's implication that it's more accurate. If they're vastly different, then it's less trustworthy. It's like any scientific statistical claim. if you only have two data points and they're vastly different, your CI is massive and your P value is shit.

I always check to see what the shape of the review numbers are.
    If it's a hill, it's trustworthy, if it's a valley, it's not.

There may be a lot to do, but you can't consider all content equal. It's perfectly fine to like one thing and hate another, and this why it's still valid to say that there isn't a lot to do even if you only play a small portion of what FF14 offers.

When it comes to gameplay, I pretty much stick to max level raids and dungeons. Lower levels are too simple and repetitive to be interesting. Leveling crafters just to get to the point where crafting rotations are interesting takes too much time and the process of leveling feels boring. Beast Tribe quests feel soulless as do many FATES and the overworld in general. MSQ is a one time thing, it can't last an entire patch. Even the content I do play isn't designed to last as it's always the same and the difficulty tends to be low.

If we had max level content that was randomized and more challenging without resorting to memorizable scripted mechanics I think I'd be completely satisfied.

Exactly, you're looking for a normal distribution of data. If it's not normal, there's bias.

Technically, you CAN do that with a lot of crafts in FFXIV, but I can see how the Expert ones not allowing it would annoy you. I like the crafting minigame, but I don't like the gear gating on the Expert Crafts and so just don't bother with crafting other than leveling them each expansion for melds/disenchant/repairs and making myself mid-grade food and tinctures, or some old gear pieces I discover and want for glams.

    .

OP: I like most everything, but not everything. I don't do Ultimates or most Savage content, so I don't really care if those are in the game or not, and I don't like ranked PvP, so don't care about CC. [EDIT: I also really don't care for Island Sanctuary at all.]

I like ALMOST everything else, and do it pretty frequently. My main project right now is finishing every last sidequest I've left unattended for years. Almost done with SB, so only ShB and EW left after that. Also dabbling with HoH and PotD solo runs.

There IS a lot to do in the catalogue, but the thing is, I also like new things. I hate patches where they add a new Ultimate (the one thing I don't engage with) since it means I have nothing new to work on for at least 2 months until they add actual content to the game. Yeah, I do a 24 man run once a week, but that's like...45 minutes of my weekly playtime. I'd much rather they add another Exploration zone like Bozja/Eureka - now that's a good time sink to grind on when I have nothing else to take my fancy. Island Sanctuary was a total let down since it has no interaction with the rest of the game and, by its nature, is largely UNinteractive, complete with the Mamets doing all the "real" crafting there (and the Workshop/sweatshop interface being completely obnoxious to work with)

For the first 3 expansions, I was solely focused on raiding. I came from a long line of MMOs where the only thing of value (to me) was raiding. When I cleared a tier or my raid group fell apart after so many weeks, I would just unsub. If I didn't have a dragon to swing a sword at, I didn't see the point in the game.

I stopped that in ShB and have dived into almost every aspect of the game with the exception of PvP and maps. And I've found them all rewarding and highly enjoyable. I can't say what percentage I've "completed." I bet that even though I've done a lot in many areas of the game, I bet it is still a small fraction of the total.

It's just something that's been on my mind. Everyone is always talking about the content drought lately, but I feel like a lot of people don't realize how much content there already is in-game.

I'm sure some of that's coming from long time veteran players who keep up with everything in-game, but I'm also curious as to how many people just do the MSQ, and maybe some a tiny bit of whatever side content interests them before leaving the rest.

Also, from personal experience, I've run into a lot of people that actually mock you or think you're crazy for bothering with different pieces of side content. So just curious about how that holds up.
I personally want to try everything the game has to offer. I've been grinding up in a more balanced way.

I have however seen many players who have been playing for a year or years that have not even completed the MSQ yet either haha

All of it other than ultimate, savage, and EX. I don't have 100% of the achievements or any plans on trying to get 100% on them.

I do the adventure content up to Savage. I would do Savage because I used to do challenging raids in other MMOs but I just don't like schedules. Since it's become more puggable, I've given it the side eye lately. It would take some considerable effort to prepare to enter that level of content and I've had other things I could do. Maybe when I'm out of the other stuff. Likewise I don't do Ultimate. I haven't been worrying about EX when they're current this expansion but I do enjoy that from time to time.

I enjoy beast tribe quests. I like doing treasure maps with my friends. I love doing relics and I've been working on finishing off the last of the Zodiacs and Animas I don't have. I'm max in DoH and DoL. I've suffered through most of Eureka and Bozja but they're not my favorite content. I do every side quest I can get my hands on from the random ones in the areas to questlines like Hildibrand. I'm a fiend for Triple Triad. Sometimes I like to go achievement hunting. I poke around at the sightseeing log when I feel the urge.

I finally leveled BLU and found out how fun Masked Carnivale is. I haven't done the synced challenge log stuff yet.

I've never done PvP but there's a TT card there now so it's only a matter of time.

I have alts, including one I've been working up on Mari and enjoying the story fresh again. I started her from scratch without any help from my main to see how far I could get on her own.

I've played for going on 9 years now and I still find plenty to do. I try to cast a wide net. Sometimes it's content the game has just dropped. Sometimes it's goals I set for myself between patches. But I'm still enjoying the game. I wouldn't be playing otherwise.

I am a bit strange that even though I do love the lore, there are still many quests I need to do! I think that subconsciously I put some things I enjoy off, due to not wanting to get to a situation where I am lost for anything to do. Like, the majority of non +! side quests I have yet to play. I completed Stormblood a good year and a half/two years ago I think? And only just did the Four Lords questline (Was not overly keen on it so its been in my Journal for a long time haha) Same for the The Sorrow of Werlyt questline… although unlike Lord, I really regret not doing that one earlier because it now ranks as one of my all-time favourite story quests in the game. Oh and whilst I am only five levels away from having every DPS class at 90… I have still yet to unlock BLU haha.

I am actually playing an alt now, and I play to do all the normal side quests as I go along and things like Lords/Sorrow more in-line with where I am in the MSQ this time.

PVP I rarely do, it is a mode that just rarely interests me outside of the odd Glam I wanna pick up. I should play more for the ‘battle pass’ stuff but yeah… I enjoy the Gathering classes, Fisher was cool but I enjoyed getting level 90 Botanist in particular. Will get around the Miner one day. Crafting I find a bit too intimidating, so have only got CUL to like level 45 now. My main motivation in that is so I can do the Tribe Quests for minions and mounts.
