Thanks a ton for the help in any case. The in/out of combat bars is an option, but not quite an ideal solution for me. Since it’s either re-learn the games in a much less smooth combat feel, or just be blind to a portion of your bars I’ll just take a break until it’s possible.

Why do you need to see your main combat bar out of combat though? Switching automatically to your non combat bar when you're out of combat is good, and it doesn't prevent you from accessing your combat bar if you want to look at it; you can still R1+Triangle to hard switch back to bar 1. They're not likely to add the functionality you're asking.
