I just don't see the point in it – inventing things for the Guinness Records as a whole, not just getting more FFXIV stuff into it. It becomes a contest to invent the most infinitely specific category you can think of to get your name on it.

"First to clear X content" / "most points scored in game X" type achievements are best left within the game's own leaderboards or achievement logs, not duplicated in a labyrinthine new system just because you can.

The records don't have to be complex and some are already existing, but Blizzard has records like,


1) First to level 80

2) First to level 70

3) Most gamers at a virtual funeral*

4) First Stan Lee Cameo*

5) Oldest World of Warcraft gamer to earn 10,000 Achievement Points

6) Most Twitch channels for an RPG videogame

7) Most expensive World of Warcraft mount

8) First LGBT hero in Overwatch

9) Tallest mobile cosplay costume based on a videogame (single person)

10) Oldest World of Warcraft gamer to reach 900 average Item Level of equipment

11) Most watched World of Warcraft machinima on YouTube



I think these could be FF14 equivalent world record titles using Blizzard's record history.**


1) First to level 90 in FF14

2) First to level 80 in FF14

3) Most gamers at a virtual funeral*

4) First Green Ranger Cameo (Could really be anyone)

5) Oldest FF14 gamer to earn 20,000 Achievement Points

6) Most Twitch channels for an RPG videogame

7) Most expensive FF14 mount (FF14 has '50 million gil' mounts)

8) First LGBT hero in FF14*

9) Tallest mobile cosplay costume based on a videogame (single person) [Hydaelyn Cosplay]

10) Oldest FF14*gamer to reach 630 average Item Level of equipment

11) Most watched FF14 ultimates, savage, extremes on YouTube


I feel there is a lot of potential GBWRs that could be obtained, and some even challenging existing Blizzard records.

We have some exceptional gamers in the FF14 community. This is just one example of one gamer on PS3 that was the first to clear FF14.

Because it meets the 3 GBWR criteria (i.e. standardized, measurable, and everyone can do it), FF14 console users are more likely to be officially amazing. I think there are a lot more FF14 console gamers that could be in the GBWR with proof from psnprofiles.com, lodestone character profile achievements (timestamped to the day), and etc.

Other great examples would be first to obtain harder Gold Saucer achievements, FATE achievements, Firmament achievements, and etc.

There are some exceptionally obnoxious personalities within this community™ as well.

An additional thought on the "record" categories, even aside of Fyrebrand's link – so many of them are just not interesting.

"Oldest person to do X" is interesting if it's something that is difficult to do, like being the oldest person to run a marathon or climb Mount Everest. Oldest person to sit on the couch pressing controller buttons until they achieve a long-but-not-difficult process in a videogame.

"First to achieve X" is only interesting if it's something historic – from the list above, "first LGBT character in any medium" might be interesting, but "first LGBT character in a specific title" is pointless.

I have to question the application of "first achieved" to the idea of "records" in general because a record should be something that is capable of being broken. Nobody else can attempt to be the first person to achieve a thing. They're separate categories of trivia.

Also, actively trying to beat a "biggest funeral" record sounds like incredibly poor taste.

And this is one of the things they wont do as it involves politics, and cannot be clearly defined either. Because a solo character in any game might not show this identity at all, and therefor could be made to be like that later on. Once it involves politics, you are just creating a constantly changing field which can just be adjusted to whatever is deemed normal at a certain time (and in history certain things used to be normal which now are definitely not done).

First to achieve X only works when things can be measured and the measurement doesnt need to be changed over time (some game speedrun categories already resolved that by using a subcategory - some which became more popular than the default). And yes, sometimes discoveries show that certain runs became invalid because memory of previous runs was used (and before that, was assumed just rng). But again, all of these involve things that can be measured, and thats why they work well. The same can be applied upon game expansions and a certain level because the measurement doesnt change, its just a limited number of opportunities.

Some records also dont need to be broken, because it simply isnt going to be possible in any logical way, yet can still be quite an achievement For example: First to achieve 1m views on youtube. It cant be broken, but 2m, 5m etc can just become a new category as follow up. And at some point certain numbers become more special as the next major treshold is effectively unreachable (for youtube views, its usualy each multiple of 10 as its the first round number, and at some point runs into the issue of not enough people existing).

The biggest funeral one was caused indirectly, because that funeral actualy caused major server issues. It wasnt expected to become this big either. But because of the issues, its number became something meaningful. But an important note, it is a record that might be removed at some point. As any record that promotes something very unhealthy can face this. If someone is going to try to plan a death just for this purpose, it might very likely be a reason that its removed. But on that note, its just highly unlikely to happen because of a lot of factors that are very hard to control (hence it still exists).

I'm not expecting they would do it, just quoting it because it's one of the examples given above of things we could allegedly aspire to, but if it's "political" to do it on a broad scale then what makes it non-political when you make it about a single game?

My point is, it's useless as a "record", and making it interesting is more like a deep dive into cinema/literary history than a single-statement record. At best it's a piece of trivia.

My apologies for the delayed response.* I was spending time in downtown Los Angeles at the crypto.com center and going site seeing.



What's the motivation behind the Guinness Book of World Records?


I will start with an IRL event that happened almost ten years ago.* I still remember walking off the Harvard T-station and into Harvard square, passed the student center construction to the Qdoba shop.* I was starving and was going to use my Harvard ID with crimson dollars to get food.* It was the first time I had seen President Xi in person and his daughter.* The Chinese president was at Harvard University to see his daughter graduate in Psychology and we were all in line at Qdoba to get food.


So, all of a sudden, an Qdoba employee yelled in a typical bostonian demeanor* "Get to the back of the line!" I cringed when I realized what just happened.* This is the Chinese President of a superpower.* President Xi the official leader of BILLIONS of people, commands a military of hypersonic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads, and has rumored secret Chinese police stations worldwide (i.e. just like the CIA stations) was just treated like a commoner and humiliated in front of his daughter.


I still remember President Xi firmly grabbing another guy by his arm whom was lunging forward.* I had assumed this was his guard from the Ministry of State Security and whispered something while pointing to his daughter, and they all quietly walked to the back of the line.


They always say hindsight is 20/20 and all of us were shocked at the time witnessing a powerful world leader treated like that at Harvard University.* Like everyone else, we were paralyzed to take action.


I had wished I had done something like, "hello sir.* You know what….. I'm not hungry anymore.* Do u wish for u and your daughter to take my spot? I'm running late anyway and need to hop back on the T."**


But I didn't and now here we are almost ten years later and reading all these verified articles on Xinhua of western biases….that I can verify are absolutely true because I have seen it myself personally…..
