You missed those who just don't care to see 6ft tall namazu headed roes in speedos, people in pajamas or any other "wacky" outfit someone can come up with in serious moments.I'm going to say people's upbringing is the cause of at least 70% of the conflict here.
You get people who grew up in VERY strict conservative areas, and they tend to lean more towards the "half naked video game characters are bad and should be censored...even if they are at a beach".
Where as the people who weren't brought up in as strict a setting are typically going to be more open to things.
Then there is also the "my way or the highway" group...and well, you see many examples in here of that, from both sides.

WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
To the extent Square Enix is trying to encourage as many people as possible to play through at least the MSQ content, I wouldn’t hate the idea of this as an elective option for story cutscenes and specific narrative content that doesn’t have the lore friendly npcs available.
It’s like watching Avatar 2 and then having a professional football player walk across the screen for no reason lol.

I think the issue you'd run into instead is just garishly clashing armor pieces that look terrible because some people don't run full sets of all matching gear, so while you might not get a tank in a namazu head and pajama sandals you'll instead get a tank in mismatched gear from Lunar Envoy and the Raid and maybe some Rinascitta for some flavor. Not much better in my opinion, further, and I think this is more a technical limitation, I'm pretty sure the game does not save underlying information when a piece is glamoured, for instance if you die a piece and then glamor over it and then dispell the glamor the dye information is lost, so maybe they can't even program in the option with the weird engine problems they have.
Like if the dye information isn't saved then maybe the game being toggled to display base gear models instead of glamoured models would just be too taxing or something, remember how back in the day too many people toggling their visors would crash the servers? Maybe too many people swapping that 'show glamour' option would brick it too despite it should be client side I get the feeling there's a ton of backend spaghetti in the servers that is just wildly unpredictable.
Those people fall into the second category of being more open to things. As in they go about their day with whatever glamour they want, and don't care what others are wearing.
Not specifically this feature, but there have been people threatening to unsub if something wasn't changed to how they wanted it. Though who knows, there may be someone who hasn't vocalized their opinion that would quit if it was officially said this would never happen
I was raised extremely conservative and I can't think of anyone around me or in my household that thought people should wear clothes at the beach be it in real life or not. We wore beach outfits (trunks, 1 and 2 pieces for the women) and such when we rarely went to the beach so.. I honestly wouldn't go with the whole "half naked video game characters are bad and should be censored even at the beach!" shtick towards conservatives.. however there is another type of upbringing that is 100% like this.

This is what is referred to as profiling. A slippery slopeI'm going to say people's upbringing is the cause of at least 70% of the conflict here.

Feel like this'd swap ugly glams for ugly base sets, dunno if i like that either
doubly so when you start seeing everyone in what is effectively "Sameface" once they hit cap and start doing raids, imagine limsa having 70% of people wearing normal Raid gear or AR gear after x time has passed since a patch, since it'd be their easiest to attain BiS for the moment
if you want less silly glams to be prominent, get Square to stop making them, otherwise, don't expect anything that might hit their bottom line to happen (Less customizability, less people want to fanta for a specific glam, or buy a specific dye, or pay for store glam, etc)
People keeping saying stuff like this. I don't know why.Feel like this'd swap ugly glams for ugly base sets, dunno if i like that either

It's dishonest to assume what all other people prefer. Personally, I would prefer mismatched gear in a first time MSQ dungeon run or trial run than a froghead speedo type or most modern glamour pieces. That said, there are alternative options than simply no glam such as using ARR artifact armors. Most trials still cannot be done with npcs, so someone cannot avoid these glamours easily.
That said, many that would use this option would not even use it in general locations like Limsa. Even if they did, who cares? If they prefer the mismatched armor or artifact armor over your glamour, this option only helps them and doesn't hurt you.
People do ask for less silly glamours, and the response is always the same. "We have bikini tanks and people in animal costumes. That ship has sailed" would be the likely response.
