    I figured it out!

I was using a glamour plate that was generic so I could switch the look between multiple characters, this was the problem. The current portrait set totally malfunctions if you do not have every single slot filled with the same glamour piece.

This is my generic glamour plate:

As you can see, several slots are empty because I use it on multiple jobs and didn't see the need to fill the slots, just the items I wanted the glamour to change.

This is the plate I updated which works properly

With every slot filled so it matches everything 100%, then it works properly.

In my opinion, this is an oversight and should be corrected, they should allow for generic cross job plates as I have lots of glamours and I do not want to spend a plate on every single job I want to show properly. For now, I will just have to accept that all my jobs save for WHM and DNC will have a drivers license style image until this can be fixed.

Thanks for the help everybody and hope this helps more people in the future! ^_^

Something isn't right with it. I had made sure a couple times that my portrait for my gearset was updated and saved (no option/reason to "save") only to load into the instance with the generic blank-stare plate. If this had ever happened in Crystaline Conflict, it was always about having a change in my gearset and not edit>saving it beforehand. The few times it has happened after the patch went live for dungeon/trial/raid portraits, I had made sure nothing had changed and it still managed to only show the default portrait.

Mind you, its worked a few times as well, but I can't think of anything that might have been different. If I had to guess, changing jobs outside of a sanctuary and then queueing might have been the problem, but I haven't tested it. Though that's never been a problem for CC portraits.

Honestly, this whole glamour plate and portrait system has been a mess that makes me just want to chalk it up to the "1.0 spaghetti code" meme due to how convoluted its implementation has been and temperamental the restrictions and errors are. It's like how back in the day we had to craft a different glamour prism for every single piece of gear from its corresponding DoH in 10 level increments (like Dark Matter) if you wanted to cast just 1 single glamour on something. The solution seems simple, but the devs always seem to program it in a way where you have to jump through hoops first. Its old.

yeah, I've decided to make a outfit for each role if I can.
I feel like I can just glam the weapon and then just edit-/>save the portrait with it, in it. though I'll have to check in a roulette. since I've been PVPing the entire day.

Another Reason why Gear shouldn't be locked when it's used as Glamour/Armoired/Dressered.
<unless they're planning to do something about it.., but that's just shooting from the hip to believe that.>

You can almost say.., In an effort to avoid doing something else, they've taken a longer and more difficult path.[sure it may be grand as they imagine/design it]
Only to not be doing well.., but not feeling any good either.

There's has to be no doubt that they know of these issues, since I doubt JP/EU/OCE are fine with this.

maybe they just thought we'd fire and forget the plates/glamours/portraits.., but as consumers/players we will always be adjusting it, till its perfect.

So does every portrait need to be up to day for it to display correctly or just the portrait for the job you are currently using? The one I was using was up to date and saved but still fails to show, however I didn't bother updating the other portraits.

I had the same issue you're having. You need to update any with a yellow warning mark, and it should work. After you get it to work, you can make changes all day to existing portraits, and it will reflect those changes in the duty. However, if you make even the slightest change to your character's appearance, you will need to go back to the corresponding portrait, update it, and then save it again.

It is a bit cumbersome and convoluted, but once you figure it out it's pretty easy to manipulate.

To add to the last part:

Don't have a glamour plate with a weapon other jobs can't wear, that also breaks the portrait

Basically, the portraits break every time you do anything on your gear, including glamouring an unseeable weapon over your weapon

Every time you touch anything on your gear, you have to update your gearset
Then go into character-portrait-edit (you don't have to change anything) - save

    It's... a whole process....

    You need basically:
    1. To ensure the gearset is updated & saved without errors (Yellow marker/Red marker). If you change glamour, dye, extract materia, attach materia, the gearset needs to be saved again since it has been "updated".
    2. Then, you go into portraits, ensure you untoggle instant-off to instant-on, and reflect gear / save the portrait. This way, the portrait can confirm the gearset is updated and the look is updated to the most recent form.

Ideally, there should be changes where:
    1. the instant portrait should still work even if the portrait does not match the gearset, and if there's a change in the old gearset, the portrait will simply let you know with a yellow marker. That way, there's no hassle with changing portraits over and over if they were extracting materia and the like.
    2. Additionally, there can be another option to automatically reflect new outfit look whenever a gearset is saved, thereby saving the player the hassle of constantly updating the portrait each time they change glamour. It would be best to put a option on each individual portrait and an option to enable all portraits to automatically update. That way, players who prefer the old portrait will not have any conflicts with those who want new ones.

I feel like placing these restrictions on portraits was way more cumbersome programming wise than just letting us take a portrait and displaying that image.

Either force us to always show our current appearance in the portrait, and automatically have the portrait reflect it

    OR

Let us save an appearance to a portrait even if it differs from how we currently look, so that the portrait design complements the gear we wish to display in it.

Just pick one. This new portrait system where it reverts to default every 2 seconds combines the worst parts of both designs. You are forced to show current gear in your portrait AND you are forced to edit the plate every time you want to change the gear showing in your portrait.
