The Current State of Glamour Gear

One simple thing I want addressed is the Ward Knight and Ward Mage sets in Mog Station, which are locked to DoW and DoM classes respectively instead of being freely glamourable like other bought sets. I assume they were from the earliest days of the cash shop, and philosophy may have moved on since then.

I was so close to buying the knight set as an armoured healer glamour when I noticed the role restrictions on it. :(

We just got this set that can be worn by every single Job in the game for free, no PVP required or anything...



I don't think Glamour (gear) Role restrictions matter.

Then you truly fail to grasp how it even works, despite it being so plain to see. You also just got some of what you want in this set. Maybe if you people got behind one sets they want to see unrestricted it could eventually become a reality, but figure that out early because this stuff is planned very far in advance.

I won't mince words, I really, really wish the devs would go over existing Glamour gear (and gear intended to be such, but that for some reason still requires a higher level e.g. Replica Allagan gear, Makai sets etc.) and drop it all down to level 1 and remove Job/Role restrictions altogether.

What reason could there be for those restrictions to be in place anymore considering we've already got everything from plain clothes to essentially WoW armour (the various unobtainable PVP sets, but also this year's Heavensturn reward) under the "level 1, All Classes" umbrella? And, unlike unrestricted Glamour in general, there's no "technical difficulties" to point at either, as the aforementioned gear has no other gameplay purpose!

Wouldn't do much to change the fact we've been getting fairly uninspired Glamour gear lately (or satisfy my, and others' desire, for unrestricted Glamour), but it would alleviate it to an extent as more combinations became available to those of us who want an (or multiple!) All Classes get-up(s) for our characters.

The devs once said they don't want to unlock job locked gear cause it would break immersion. I write this while being in a dungeon with a giant Roegadyn chicken, an elephant that seems to have learned how to use white magic and a catgirl who got probably isekaied into this dungeon from a beach party...a really naughty beach party...

So yeah, cohesive immersion is long dead. Please just unlock all the restricted gear SE, there is no general adventurer glam vibe anymore like in ARR maybe. Drop your old excuses and let me finally wear my mch goggles on jobs that deal actually damage. Thanks.

Yeah there's no real reason not to. Even in this thread, the usual contrarians who appear anytime a QoL idea is proposed are coming up drier than usual.
While we're talking about glam quality of life, the ability to lock hairstyles to glamplates would be stellar. I'm hoping 7.0 addresses a lot of this, but if not I guess we'll all just have to find other ways to get our Glamourer on, haha

Really not sure what you're getting at...? If the Heavensturn reward (or the Archfiend set, or the upcoming PVP set) is fine for everyone to wear, then there's no reason the rest of the existing Glamour gear shouldn't be, it's an inconsistency I feel deserves to be addressed. I promise this wasn't a thinly veiled attempt to start another "they should remove Role restrictions on Glamour across the board" debate.

What are you referring to as "glamour" gear? Anything with stats on it does not fit that category and will never be "unlocked" because there's so much of it. I'm not against the idea, but people like to carry on about this as if they can change things in a snap.

It wouldn't be a problem if they overhauled the glam system finally for something more modern. As much as i don't like WoW the glam log would be a great addition to XIV. If you get a piece of gear just let it basically be saved as you having earned it and then being able to glam it whenever you wish like WoW does it actually. That way glam would be not bound to any class restrictions and people could finally freely glam and don't trash their inventories and glam dresser with thousands of items.

You say spaghetti, I say apples and oranges because one game lets you be whatever you want on one character, where the other doesn't.

It's not glam, it's armor first. Along with the weapons, they've always served as a means for job identity. I don't see them trying to tackle a 10 year log of items just so someone can make a tiny difference in their appearance.

That should be it, but it sounds like people treat all gear as glamour since that system exists (only since patch 2.2).
