Nah, I just dislike when people use one day out the year to spread cheer instead of doing it throughout the year. I cannot help but feel this was just some case of a person wanting to seem some brownie points over what largely amounts to a meaningless action inside of a video game just to make themselves feel better. The intent just seems less about spreading cheer to others and more so to make themselves happy or feel better.

Call me an ass but it has always rubbed me the wrong way when people all of sudden become so caring and giving around this time of year but do not do the same throughout the year. Never been a fan of empty platitudes.

No matter the intension.... millions of people play this game and many of these people do not celebrate Xmas at all, that also explains all the different themes that has been each year in FFXIV that relate to many different things and traditions if often relating more to the Winter Solstice.

Try and keep religion and politics outside of the game and you most likely will not run into these problems again, don't take people for granted either.

On the topic of that, on a server I'm on another person was also going around giving cookies. In the same location I was going to meet a friend to do a trade, and she barely noticed that she almost gave away 1m gil to that person because they started trade with her before I could. She was just attentive enough to notice that at the last moment.

So ye, sometimes this action can actually arise some troubles, unintentionally.

Otherwise it's a cute gesture, I find it warming when people do something like that. Has some cute role-playing atmosphere too (a person in Christmas glamour giving people ginger cookies? C'mon, it's adorable!). But there probably wan't be a definitive opinion on the matter, some people will just find it annyoing (some do in this thread as well).

Half the people in this thread genuinely worry me that an act of kindness makes them assume the worst, and a 5 second interaction spells doom for their day. This was common place even a decade ago in other MMOs, and not just on Christmas, players have always gifted things to others they don't know, and that's how humanity works.

Because no one has the time to spread positivity all the time like a main character in an E rated video game. You sound like you just want to be bothered for the sake of it rather than it being an actual problem.

Yeah my Christmas sucked (because you have to deal with family the most and let’s just say they aren’t very nice people), if someone handed me a cookie in game I would have gladly taken it, I never stayed away from trades I mean wth its a free gift, Id have eaten that cookie straight away but not stayed to chat because on ps5 its harder to write.
Its nice you want to spread your joy, but make sure others actually want it first as weird as that sounds because for many people holidays are not a happy occasion, still no reason for them to treat you like this, they could have just said no thank you and hopefully you both leave eachother be.

Meh, in my opinion a simple gesture from the OP could easily be done whenever, though I strongly suggest he does not do it often. You can feel / think what you want and I will do the same. Wonders of life, we are free to think what we want.

Also random trades are even more annoying than random FC invites. So not shocked someone was bothered by it good intentions or not. Though I personally do not buy the good intentions, but that is just me.

I'm in the same FC as OP. This is literally all he was doing. Some rando got upset on behalf of others and threatened op with a report despite never having any interaction. If you don't want the cookies, just say you don't want the cookies. Not that hard.

Maybe this is just me ... but it's hard to believe a person who simply want to spread cheer and goodwill but also want to name and shame over one bad interaction ... I would think someone with a big enough heart for the former would simply shrug off the later. It doesn't seem to be very ... convincing in my head.

Idk why, but somehow this post conjure up the image of the usual "those who preach tolerance are often the most intolerance of them all" in modern society.

Though intentions may have been for good, the method of giving these good cheers in a random trade window could have been annoying for some. Say they were busy in other UI windows such as FC chat, inventory/armory chest sorting, glamming or any of the number of other things they were standing idle for and a random trade window suddenly popped up. They could have deleted some rare item from their inventory in the confusion trying to see why suddenly they got a trade window.

I think if anyone is going to hand out an item to a multitude of players they should use /shout or PF and not just at Christmas, but anytime. Let the players that want to receive what is being offered make the choice if they want it or not. I suggest the OP needs to just chalk this up to experience and newly gained knowledge. Move on and enjoy the Holiday.
