Just because both genders can wear them doesn't mean what they show once equipped can't be different. I mean we are dealing with swim wear. A clothing style that has a long history of looking one way via their icons only to behave the same way the hempen pantallettes tend to be. Or the Neo Ishgardian set.

Guys can literally wear the booty shorts from the original island sets and gals can wear the longer shorts from the original island sets, though. If they're staying with that because it makes their players happy, then gals will be able to wear the board shorts and guys can wear the bikini bottoms. It was said in the live letter itself last night, straight from the XIV discord translation irt the treasure map glam: Y "Just like the glam we showed earlier, these are not gender locked"

Prior to that, they showed the PvP Season 3 rewards (which looks the same on anyone equipping them anyway) and before that was the likely-island sets. I have no reason to believe, especially when they said the prior island sets were not gender locked, that these will be one set but changed for everyone. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, but everything points to "it's not genderlocked, wear your long shorts if you want" right now.

Which is what I hope happens. That you're not wrong and that everyone gets to wear whatever tops and bottoms they want fron this new set. Yet I think there's still a lot of doubt if not bitterness since we just had a similar set come out that had a different projection depending on gender. With the swim outfit from Moonfire Faire. The shorts might not be as long or be the thing that has the pattern on it this time, but a lot of people wanted to be able to wear the other gender's look. And in that picture we have the men having an open top with a necklace and some board shorts. Just like back then. Where we also have the women's outfit being the open shirt with a bikini top and bottoms without the necklace. Which again is how it was back during the summer. I think some of us are just trying to not to hype up our expectations of a glamor piece even when we hear not gender locked. As there's very few times where the devs have gone and made something be akin to the modern school uniforms. And not have not gender locked only mean that everyone can wear it, but just like almost every whm shorts or pants end up not looking like shorts or pants on female characters.

The tops will be genderlocked for sure as it makes no sense for a male to wear a bikini top and women cant have a open shirt (even though some people would love that >_>). We also have tons of beach shoes and sandals so even if they are genderlocked it makes no difference as we already have some. The panties? I guess if males want to wear women’s panties then they will probably have the option.
