I am not the only one that noticed. It's kinda putting me off wanting to do the MSQ roulette, something which I normally run several times per day.

Hitting harder is great with an experienced group. But Ultima is a pretty long fight with most of the deaths (from non-mechanic avoiding newbies) happening at the tail end of the fight. Just before the power boost.
They did not change any difficulty or scaling of their content for this event. Not only is there no reason why they would, but also there is no actual time window when they'd be able to push such a change live (i.e. scheduled maintenance).

If you notice anything regarding your difficulty to clear the content you intend to do and the issue is not you, then it is highly likely that an influx of less-than-average players (lesser gear or general performance in fights) into your parties is the reason.

Other than you or your teammates, nothing changed. And if, it is unintended / a bug.
