yeah we're never getting a super fantasy anthro race unless they can bastardize it like they did ronso (terrible starting gear meanwhile viera got fran glamour, hunch when ronso are upright despite digifeet).I will always desire playable bangaa, but with the travesty that was hrothgar and viera, I have no hope whatsoever that Square would do a good job on them. Like, at all, it'd just be another insulting bundle of excuses, even moreso because bangaa don't even have the benefit of having remotely humanoid faces or feet, unlike hrothgar.
Neither of those would make sense in the setting. They need to be "normal people" or the MSQ gets weird.
Also, from a design perspective, the Hrothgar and Viera debacle has demonstrated that players won't accept "it's an artistic choice to allow greater character design variety" to mean they get anything less than the full array of clothing and hairstyles, so any hypothetical new race would have to wear the same things that everyone else gets.
Please don't "fix" people's quotes. Just quote what they said, so their own words are what gets shown in their quote bubble, and respond to it below.
And I think he did prettymuch say-without-saying this is the last race. The whole reason for taking the half-and-half race approach in the first time was because the number of character designs was straining their development schedule and they thought it might be the last one they could make; they have since been forced to add the other genders and so effectively add one more race beyond what they planned for.
It's possible when they first made the split race they had a window open for maybe one more race in future if it seemed viable, and they were forced to spend it sooner-than-planned on the counterparts.
Terrible is subjective. I think the Hrothgar starting gear looks good, though it seems at odds with everything else they've used the race for.
Turning one character's unique outfit into starter gear for the entire race seems the weirder choice to me. I have to wonder if they only did it to sidestep any requests to add it as gear for everyone.
Personally I hate the hrothgar starting chestpiece. The corset-looking bit around the abdomen really kills it for me.Terrible is subjective. I think the Hrothgar starting gear looks good, though it seems at odds with everything else they've used the race for.

When we have murderbots building "the cafe at the end of the universe", i don't see how any of those suggestions would be unnatural, "normal" being what it is. And as for the MSQ, well... When you punch the physical embodiment of despair, you know you've got a few screws loose.
That isn't what I said. I said that any new races would need to get the same outfits and hairstyles as the other races. You can play as a Hrothgar male from lvl 1 MSQ all the way to the end of 6.2 MSQ, they are beastly looking instead of more humanoid like the other races, so "Normal People" looking characters has already been shown to not matter.
So because they dropped the ball on the headgear for Hrothgar/Viera then we should just not have any new races?
So your hypothetical robots and glowy soul people would still be stuck with standard human hairstyles and costumes.
And I do think Hrothgar are a step beyond what should fit within the established MSQ, but they're still flesh-and-blood living people. I don't think that's a boundary that they can go outside in designing player races who are introduced at the beginning of the story.
It looks more gladiator than corset to me.
Those are at the opposite end of the plot, and they are NPCs. Their existence in post-game Endwalker is a new and unique thing there. It's a completely different situation to introducing them as a playable race in ARR.
I prefer to react to definitive absolutes. Because the "say-without-saying" mindset can make you look silly when the opposite is true. Just like how people were losing hope that we wouldn't see Male Viera or ever see the possibility of Female Hrothgar. So unless I hear / See an absolute that we outright are never getting another race added, Ill still believe in a Sliver of a possibility we could see another, and that they might figure out a less painful way to implement said new race.
And, They explained why they did what they did years ago, no need to explain or remind me of the situation. I was apart of the many conversations and debates and rage over the "Locked Genders" controversy.
Which...again is proof that there is always a chance something can happen.
