I don't think Yoshi P and the team will give up on a data center until 7.1 or 7.2, to see if a next expansion release will help the data center become lively.

We've had this discussion quite a few times. I do agree with people pointing out that cross data center travel, will not help with long queues in the duty finder. I still however, think it's beneficial for players to have the option to exhaust the content outside their data center if they can't do it in their main one.

Obviously, a data center needs numbers. However, because 30% of the most active players who want to play all kinds of content have left Materia the moment their 3 month wait is up, it's left it in such a poor state, there is no way people will transfer back until 7.0, so that the people from OCE can avoid login wars on a very active data center.

But say if Materia data center still fails in the end. Not enough hype and interest during expansion release, which means not a good enough boost in numbers, that people just end up transferring back after the expansion craze is done. How do you think Yoshi P and the team will handle the situation?

There is no way they will delete the worlds. That would result in a major backlash, especially from people who still made a community there and want to keep their houses. I think the data center will be deleted, but all the words from Materia will be merged with another data center, likely split.

If they don't expand Dynamis if it fails, they could easily slap all the words there, but then people from OCE have to deal with awful NA ping. Would still be a major backlash, but people can still have their houses and communities intact.

These are just predictions. I'm thinking about scenarios that could seem possible and what could be the best solution for a data center that is a confirmed failure. But what's your take on it?
Just wait until they expand it even more and add even more new NA worlds next year as planned, making it even worse by spreading the numbers even further, while barely even adding any players to the new datacenter.

Same for EU, they are adding an entire new datacenter while Sagittarius/Raiden are both almost empty even at peak times, and yet they are still going with that idea which will ruin the actual datacenter in the long run as it's spreading the playerbase even further.

I reckon they should stop creating more worlds or data centers. The huge surge of WoW refugees is done. We're passed that era. I don't think we'll get another huge wave again like that. We'll just get some new players as well as all returning casual players every expansion release and pre-release. But making new data centers or worlds is just confidence overload from SE. I do reckon that the popularity of FFXIV will gradually decline in a couple of years once the mmorpg market has more competition.
