It will still not happen, no matter how hard people wish for it. They will not go against their own peoples wishes, JP really hate mixing cultures cause it creates discord. And thus we will never see it BUT you can hold me to that, if they actually implement it come back here and you can give me a "I told you so" and i will gladly accept it. Just highly unlikely.

Going to point out that they're a JP business providing a global service. They can't just ignore the rest of their playerbase because that's how you lose people. Personally if JP just doesn't want anyone in JP, then region lock JP. They get what they want while NA, EU and Materia, who actually want to visit each other and do content together, get what they want too. I fail to see why compromise is such a bad thing in this situation if everyone ends up happy and ultimately gets what they're after. But to ignore 3/4 of their regions for the sake of 1 is not going to end well at all and will drive people away by making a stance like that.

Do NA and EU have a burning necessity to visit each other? Sure, you OCE people see cross-region DC travel as the magical salvation for your dead DC (it isn't) but as a general thing, I doubt there is much interest. You can't overcome the laws of physics and the ping to any DC across an ocean from where you live will be atrocious. And if your DC has a healthy population you really don't need to suffer like this just to get queues to pop.

Personally, I'd be ok with cross-region even if I won't ever use it. With a caveat that it should come with DF and PF settings to prevent "extra travellers" in your parties. I don't need 300 ping heroes around, people are bad enough at the game as is. But also I see why SE doesn't see it as a major priority. It likely won't appeal to a vast majority of players.

I'm not from Materia, pointing that out. I main in NA but have alts in several different servers in different DCs. Not entirely sure where that came from but alright.

And yes, I've seen all 3 regions wishing for cross-region travel both on this forum and in other spaces. There are obviously some who are against it because of stereotypes that don't apply to an entire region but a small vocal minority (just being honest) but those who are able to look past it realize that it would be fine with precautions set up (like locking people from buying things cross-region). The point is that people have friends in other regions that would like to eventually play with each other without having to uproot their entire life in game to do so or be forced to make an alt and have to start from square one.

Oh don't get me wrong memes and trolls are not that bad, NA is hilariously funny sometimes. Just take the billboard incident from this year for example. It's great and tbh the XIV community would be half as interesting without all these crazy stories. But some people like a different kind of environment and that should be alright too. So NA is known for well really crazy stuff, JP is known for like total peace and order and EU is where people are well nice and welcoming mostly. EU is basically a combination of NA and JP, a bit of well social order but also not as crazy about it but cause of that well we have also some toxicity here and there. EU feels like the middle ground of both extremes and i for myself like it that way, mixing all the different "cultures" up now would be a mistake in my eyes cause atm each player has a place to go to for their personal taste be it the wild west or well total zen on JP.

It got so much backlash that they took them down within a day or two and subsequently pissed off an entire server because they couldn't even log in when the event actually went down because of how congested it was. That wasn't anything good, it was pure stupidity.

I personally don't see a problem with mixing cultures. We already have tourism irl where people from all over the world visit places and the cultures blend together when interacting with the local population and vise versa. Do people make that big of a fuss about it in that context? What about people moving to other countries to work? Does either side force people to take on their culture or do they try to find a middle ground where both can exist? Just because this is a video game doesn't mean we need to revert to practices of separating everyone based on culture out of fear of interacting with something different.

And anyway, if the ping is so bad like everyone is claiming then why are we even worried about people from another region coming to disrupt everything? They'll just realize they can't even play the game and go back. The point is that at least the option is there for people who have friends in other regions to visit each other if they can and also allow people to experience how other regions work. I personally would love to visit JP just to see the amazing housing designs that exist there, I could literally care less about doing actual content there or buying off the MB.

I will leave you to consider the legal minefield this will create for Square Enix, as they will be in direct violation of several nations privacy laws, demanding a PASSPORT ID to be allowed to play a videogame on specific servers is a can of worms no one wants to open.

Not to mention that a great deal of jp players enjoy the company of people who have been there for years, I very much doubt anyone would agree with you on this.

Not really, there's Korean laws that require people that create game accounts there to have their SSN there, so nope.

May be an issue on any other country but not there. Blizzard has it, and Riot has it on those servers.

There are actually already NA players disrespecting these houses by taking pics in them with modded characters which japanese players are REALLY AGAINST. Like REALLY AGAINST IT. Dunno what you think but with completely open servers that will likely not change for the better.

As I've said like at least a handful of times now, that's fine. They can keep their doors shut. More power to them. Give it to the rest of us who want it and aren't freaked out by by the possibility of associating with anyone who might be slightly different.

Nothing is going to change that they're providing a global service and ignoring 3/4 of their regions will lead to massive backlash. Showing obvious favoritism for one group or making a decision that is out of bias, when you are supposed to be neutral and provide the best for all of your customers, never ends well.

Frankly, if they ever did allow for cross DC, they should just remove servers entirely and make mega servers. So you're on the NA server, in totality (or JP, etc). and can play/meet anyone on the entire datacenter. This would mean having more "Gridania shard 1, 2, 3" etc, but ultimately it'd be a better solution.

Then, if you're going to allow cross DC, should just make the entire MB entire-world level.

...that said, I prefer things as they are, although no I would not require anyone to prove their location in the world. As is many players from countries (like in South America) don't live in places with a DC. Restricting based on country of residene? SE would never opt for an option to lose revenue like that.

They can't really do this because of player names, unless servers remained a thing for names alone just merged everyone together

Tbh please speak for yourself and stop pretending everyone wants Crossregion DC Travel. For me I don't want NA on EU Servers either.
