Just pointing out that requiring an ID to access specific servers already exists in China. Any mobile games that have a Chinese server/version requires a legitimate Chinese ID to even get past the front door. Implementing it here would be different but it's nothing that doesn't already exist.I will leave you to consider the legal minefield this will create for Square Enix, as they will be in direct violation of several nations privacy laws, demanding a PASSPORT ID to be allowed to play a videogame on specific servers is a can of worms no one wants to open.
Not to mention that a great deal of jp players enjoy the company of people who have been there for years, I very much doubt anyone would agree with you on this.

General thoughts on the topic:
- If we're worried about MB usage just lock it for other regions. DCs in your own region group are yours to use but if you go to EU from NA for example, you can't purchase anything outside of vendor items or through PF ads. Problem solved.
- If JP wants to be kept out of everything, more power to them. Let EU, NA and Materia have access then since we're the ones who actually want it. JP has stated they want cross-DC removed entirely because people are traveling and leave some places completely empty. If they don't want it, cool. Don't give it to them then. Remove cross-DC even from just JP to appease them. But don't punish everyone else for that and make 3 regions miss out on stuff because 1 wants to be kept behind a fortress.

Cause they are the devs chosen people basically. I mean do you really think a japanese company goes against the wishes of their japanese playerbase, which usually despises outsiders. Not in a general sense ofc more like it's great they exist...far far away from the JP datacenter.
We rather get personal instanced housing for everyone, viera hats and unlimited glamour dressers than SE going against their own peoples wishes. Which in my case aligns perfectly with what i want so i am pretty happy about that outcome. Just keep NA locked away from the rest of the world, better that way. Leave the memes and trolls were they belong.

Going to point out that they're a JP business providing a global service. They can't just ignore the rest of their playerbase because that's how you lose people. Personally if JP just doesn't want anyone in JP, then region lock JP. They get what they want while NA, EU and Materia, who actually want to visit each other and do content together, get what they want too. I fail to see why compromise is such a bad thing in this situation if everyone ends up happy and ultimately gets what they're after. But to ignore 3/4 of their regions for the sake of 1 is not going to end well at all and will drive people away by making a stance like that.Cause they are the devs chosen people basically. I have never heard, that SQEX has made a survey and asked the japanese audience, whether they want physical datacenter travel or not.Cause they are the devs chosen people basically. You can always create a character on a JP datacenter if it is not marked as full. And it seems, that it is not a problem for japanese players at all. And the second thing is, i doubt, that the impact on japanese players will be noticable. Because it is relatively pointless to play on other datacenters. The network latencies are way worse compared to the home datacenter. And then there are huge timezone shifts. On JP server primetime most NA players will be already in bed.
Maybe there is a one or two hour overlap or so.
Cheers

I can actually answer the first part of your post. They haven't to my knowledge put out a survey, however there are threads on the JP forums asking for not only cross-region to not exist but also for cross-DC to be removed. They flat out don't want any of it because people are using cross-DC to visit other JP centers and leaving some empty and don't want cross-region for the obvious.I have never heard, that SQEX has made a survey and asked the japanese audience, whether they want physical datacenter travel or not.And again, there is already no protection against players from other countries. It will still not happen, no matter how hard people wish for it. They will not go against their own peoples wishes, JP really hate mixing cultures cause it creates discord. And thus we will never see it BUT you can hold me to that, if they actually implement it come back here and you can give me a "I told you so" and i will gladly accept it. Just highly unlikely.Going to point out that they're a JP business providing a global service. They can't just ignore the rest of their playerbase because that's how you lose people.
