The sad thing is, go back a couple years before covid/at the start of covid and the RP scene used to look so different. There was actually more to do than just clubbing (an ex-friend of mine used to "work" at a potion shop (I use quotes because she wasn't paid by the owners and did it just because she enjoyed being there and the conversations she'd have). I'm not sure if this is true or not still but Crystal used to be the last bastion of hope for unpaid RP where venues wouldn't charge actual gil but have fake interactions with it. Lounges, restaurants, cafes, etc. were EVERYWHERE. It was really fun to go out on dates and do things together we couldn't necessarily do irl do to the pandemic or just distance in general.

Then when we all really went into lockdown, people started realizing they can profit off players wanting to go out and party and the club scene exploded. Now there's literally no room to do anything different or innovative because they just get drowned out by multi-ad club spam (or feel inadequate that they're not making the same amount of money as other places).

Roleplay is a business now in 14. It's depressing but can't blame anyone but ourselves for enabling the practices.

Though it does surprise me that other venues that dealt with businesses didn't use actual in-game currency. I assumed that even in those potion shops you'd have people actually buy the items. At least, that's what I assume you're saying given you say "rp is a business now". People got paid with gil before.

A fair number of RP venues that sell things have carrd pages that are menus with prices, etc. I've gone to bars and such that charge a couple thousand for a drink, but they're always made-to-order by the staff. My restaurant's "pay what you want" for the HQ food I make and sometimes people toss a lot of money my way, other times nothing. It really depends on the individual venue. If I were running a potion/alchemy shop, I'd be making all the goods myself and selling them for a fixed price.

People using the word ERP don't even know the correct meaning of it either: ERP = Enterprise Resource Planning... however it is getting out of hand inside the game... and you hear come to this or that club... we have live bards... which is in fact bot bard bands running a third part program and so on and so forth.

Also it lost alot of the zass to it with these clubs... now you need to buy vip passes and all sort of stuff as well, all communication is through tells from the staff... meaning the RP effect is losing it as well in most cases... most are more into making a buck on it rather than just having fun, which also makes one ask and raise questions.

That sounds adorable. I don't have the spontaneity of writing to RP myself, but would've loved to just visit such a venue and soak it in.
