Hmm. I'm one of those odd folks that is content enough with death as it is, but I've got to say, Yoshi-P's ideas here don't sound bad to me.
But maybe the reason I'm somewhat leery of a death penalty is 'cause I'm a mage. Whenever I'm in parties mages die much more often than DoW's. Of course, if death is made into more of a big deal, more strategy will be needed to avoid this and I'm all for strategy, makes things more fun. I don't really want to be the one in a party to have to tell the archer to quit drawing the mobs over or the gladiator to be a better tank, though . . . ^^; But then again in a party there is usually another mage to raise/resurrect. ^^
Well, looks like I'd better get that exploring done soon! I foresee many explorers running around dangerous areas in their undies if the gear wear on death is implemented. xD
I like the idea. I do not care that much really. At least it will not cause mass hysteria when things go wrong in an instance. I wiped so often in FFXI, only because some moron didn't want to die and wiped the whole alliance instead because he tried something stupid.
Everyone is comparing FFXIV to other games. Everyone is requesting futures from WoW, but none mentions that WoW basically has no death penalty at all (except that the game itself is one). Only thing that happens is that you get a small penalty on your gear, thats it.
Welcome to the world of modern game design that's aimed for complete ***** that want the game to play itself while they hold the controller and pretend to interact.

We can thank WoW for that unfortunately. WoW introduced MMORPG to the mass. While that was a good thing for the amount of players for the MMORPG genre it was a bit of a stab in the back when it comes to having a challenging game.

Welcome to the world of modern internet, where self-elected "hardcore" gamers call everyone else "retard" and mistake a pointless timesink with challenge
Timesink != challenge
challenge = challenge

Agreed. Why not focus on making the content challenging instead?
Actually seif I had a conversation with a buddy of mine the other day about games being less and less challenging these days so to an extent I can agree with the idea of what you put. But once again, there is nothing "more challenging" about making you go and get buffer exp.
Lol. Yes this is what we need right here. Actually this should be reserved just for loyalty mode members.
=)
We got the official translation for this like 12 hours ago and you decide to make a thread about the unofficial translation?
