24 hour ban on first death, 48 hour ban on second, 72 hour ban on third, account deletion on fourth. Die 4 times you gotta buy the game again.I think you're right.... screw EXP loss, that's not challenging at all. For XIV we look at bigger and improved death penalty! Level loss, you die, you lose a level... you die again you lose 2!! You die enough time you gotta remake your character from scratch now that's challenging!
Now that's challenging!
Player
Agreed.
Yoshi-P you hear that? That's what we want! But don't worry about pushing away all the casual players or whatever audience you are trying to reach, us hardcore challenge seekers will be here for a while... all 3 of us......
lmao. That gave me a good laugh.
/off quote
I asked this before so I will ask again. Those that want xp/sp loss would you still choose it if we had 2 options to decide what happens with death? for example...
You create your character and at the end you choose a penalty given from the "gods" for you failing(aka dying).
1) xp loss and weakened
2)1 of the 2 choices the dev team is deciding on(meaning whichever one they choose).
If this was the case people should be happy all around right? The minority still get their nuts pushed in while the rest can enjoy the game and just be pissed they died(cause I don't know who enjoys dying
even now).
edit: Annoying and longer time sinks can never increase a challenge. It just creates scared paranoid players like in XI. It is also a deal breaker with most casuals.
I said before that SE needs both HARDCORE and CASUALS to be successful.

in my opinion, if they want to add the death penalty they must do it after combat rebalancing
make everything right before you try to punish players who died from those mountain of issues or you'll just make them angry more
Yep, because adding more mere timesinks to the game is sooo thrilling
Timesinks have nothing to do with challenge.
Gotta love when someone argues that making a player waste a bit of his playtime is "challenging"
Challenge is achieved by, guess what, adding actually challenging content, not by wasting people's time.

I'm ok with a death penalty. Except with regards to SP loss.... that was the only thing that "REALLY" burned my ass in FFXI.
As for Gear Wearing/Damaging/Etc. As a Crafter..... I wouldn't mind this at all![]()
My sinister side says: Everytime you die, your Weapon's/Armour's Cap for its durability is lowered, but it goes back up to normal when you have a player repair it for ya!
Anyways, I doubt that would be implemented as it is kinda silly.
As for the comment of "When you die, you lose a level!" Oh ghad! Please don't give them idea's! LOL.
Why not focus on challenging content and not stacking unnecessary penalties? Unless of course no amount of challenge you put into content = challenging unless you have to go back and get buffer exp anytime you want to do something that has a chance of killing you.
When will people realize that Everquest is dead?
Maybe Yoshi-P should just have another poll asking what kind of penalty players want for death.
