Thanks for the clarification above all. Thankfully I have had a personal house since they first came out and maintained a sub since accordingly. The inception or reasoning for the demolition timer was lost on me tbh, so quite interesting it was community requested.

It makes me smile that the ones who answered your question are from 2013 and 2014. We remember that fateful day. So does Pepperidge Farm.

Y'all shouldn't have asked for things without considering the consequences :^)

Like, it is rather daft to have such a limited amount of plots for a clearly growing playerbase. But then you hold your players' achievements hostage by locking them behind a paywall to sustain them.

I had a house already and anticipated maintaining my sub until the day I quit permanently so it wasn't an issue I was concerned with. Blame the other people.

That being said, at the time demolition was a decent solution to the issue of people quitting the game leaving houses abandoned for months to a year or more at a time. Even though I lost houses twice to Life Happens extended breaks, I'm in favor of demolition as a necessary evil. Then again, I'm not one of those people who puts such a high priority on keeping a house that I won't cut my sub for months or longer if necessary. On the flip side, now that my life situation's better than it was before, the sub cost is a non-issue so I have no problems with maintaining it indefinitely to keep the house I got recently.

That's... a bit selfish though, no? Just because you no longer have any problems maintaining a subscription, it's fine to keep the system as is without seeking an alternative? Arguing "oh well, if you're unstable with money, don't play a game" is incredibly elitist, considering financial issues aren't as clear-cut as "get a job". Especially now with the growing inflation in certain countries.

Regardless, I understand the need for the demolition, but it shouldn't be the permanent and only solution. Other avenues need to be considered and explored. Because constantly locking people out of things goes against what Square's been doing lately.

If you can't afford the monthly sub, don't be sad if you lose your home.

It isn't that expensive. if somebody can cut down on their 2-3 slices of avocado toast a week, then they would have MORE than enough to pay for their sub.

The problem is that many millennials can't do without their avocado toast and Starbucks coffee, and then complain they can't afford their monthly sub and lose their home. It is a sad state of affairs.

I'm sorry, I don't see where I said any of that. I did say that I'm in favor of demolition as a necessary evil even though I lost a house twice in the past due to needing to take extended breaks. Given the framework of housing right now, it's the only thing that will help recycle houses into the market. I don't like it, but it's the best of otherwise bad options at this time. I did also say that because I can afford to maintain my sub forever at this point doing so is a non-issue if it means I can keep the house I have now. This includes not have a problem that SE's "holding me hostage" to keep it. I don't believe that's a selfish thing on my part.
