The global chat part is annoying. My precious baby NN has been talking about kanye, mods (someone did say not to talk about those there at least), midlanders vs other races..all within the last 10 minutes D:

I'd be down for a global chat though. May help keep the NN free of all the random crap.

Not sure NA players of this game can be trusted with such freedom of speech. (not joking at all)

If people could mostly contain things to the global chat, at least you'd only have one chat channel you have to ignore

    That's a gigantic "if", I know. lol.

When I was very new I used NN and it was decent.
But as I progressed since then it has changed and while still sometimes helpful, it is mainly just a private chat channel for certain folk.
Questions would get lost in the chat and never answered or responses were lost and you had to keep scrolling to view, as the constant chatter would keep the chat scrolling while one tries to read the advice given.

I've mostly opted out of NN for my characters.

Considering the shout chat as of late (well, when I last was in-game), a global chat might be a recipe for disaster!

When I was newer and NN was actually something potentially useful, people just talked amongst themselves and tended to ignore peoples requests or questions.

It was like some weird 'who wears the BK crown the best' congregation.

Global chat is fun in pretty much every single game I have ever played. Particularly if people semi-RP in it.

Perhaps not random chats, but I was just playing Lord of the Rings Online, and there was a discussion as to which character would earn the most money on OnlyFans. Turns out that it would be Galadriel (and yes, people used Tolkien lore to back this up...)

I miss a global chat in FF14. I love what insane things people come out with.

Although, based on my experience checking out the NA server yesterday, I probably wouldn't want to go near global chat on NA. It has only ever been good (for me) on European servers for games, at least.

I always find it awkward how terrible the NNs on other servers seemingly are when Cactuar's is consistently chill and helpful.

Most of the time, Zodiark's Novice Network does honestly try to help. But, of course, it isn't perfect.

Sometimes I feel like the answers some people give aren't really gauging what sort of need the person has. Their explanations tend to be either super vague or overly detailed (with a focus on endgame rotations for jobs), which might trip up someone who's brand new to the game.

Worst it gets is people just arguing about dumb stuff. Especially when they pass wrong information as fact. Such as "GNB is the worst tank" (it isn't, and they were arguing that it was all because Heart of Corundum wasn't as good as TBN or Bloodwhetting), or "Ninja is underperforming" (it wasn't, it was even considered meta). Like, even when you call them out on it, the first thing they say is "Well I main it".

I've seen this sort of exchange on other Worlds too. It especially often happens when a more casual Mentor is trying to give a sprout an understanding of their job to a level that's reasonable (the kind that is perfectly adequate for leveling and for casual endgame content) but which may not necessarily be fully polished from a Savage or Ultimate standpoint.

Quite frequently, a more hardcore Mentor will then pipe in and accuse the milder teacher of "misinformation" which tends to degenerate into an argument, which does not in any way benefit the sprout.

(I want to blame this on the near-total domination of mainstream FFXIV culture by the hardcore raiders. But, still more depressingly. Is this really anything unique? As I've probably mentioned before, it feels like "hobbies for fun" in general are starting to become an endangered species, with the exception of entirely solitary ones, and gaming may just be a more glaring example than most.)
