The "I agree with you" then disagree with you on every point is the oldest trick in the book. She gave you an alternate viewpoint from the owner of a venue, she agreed to some of your points- Calling her manipulative is manipulative of you to paint her as the bad guy when there wasn't any bad guy at the start. As far as Dichotomy is concerned- You can RP at a venue, so she wasn't trying to compare something like apples to carrots. I don't care much for people trying to incorporate ethos pathos and logos into conversations to try and gain an upper hand and sway an audience, but criminalizing someone just because you don't like the response someone gave you isn't the way to go about it in public. As for me, I don't RP. I try, I want to- but it's just not for me. The Most 'RP'ing I will ever do is probably my bio page on here to be incredibly honest and like she said:
I was too, but there wasn't a flood of annoying shouts back when I tried. Yes, I hate them too simply because they oversaturate my chat with orange lengthy word walls. I tried going with some ex-FC mates and I found it wasn't for me, however stating that it should be outright removed in every form isn't the way to go either I didn't even know venues existed until mates showed me and prior to last year, I never touched the other tab in PF because all I thought about was simply Roulettes all the time. As far as out in the public, not everyone is willing or comfortable with doing it in a visual of an open area like a desert where anyone and everyone can see what they type. Yes there are things like Linkshells and parties that people can do to limit who all can see but the majority of new players have the mindset of "Oh... Everyone will think I'm cringe if I start openly RP." and so places like venues where they're RP safe places are good.
And if you're like me when I started you wouldn't have heard by word of mouth because I didn't have many friends starting out. So no, just because they can get information via word of mouth doesn't mean they will get the business.
As far as Gil transactions are concerned. Those are OPTIONAL much akin to the cash shop or a Fast food place. You don't need to go into these places and buy anything (though much like a business, they care more about if you are comfortable and willing to buy something- You wouldn't go to a -INSERT GENERIC RIPOFF NAME HERE- if a McDonald's was right down the road, would you?), it's part of the RP Experience if that Venues want to charge services. There are also plenty of places that are just hangouts.
The misdirection, strawmans, weasel words, "won't someone think of the new players"
Its all the same manipulative tricks companies use to influence legislators not to regulate them.
As she said, "It's basic psychology"
I started playing Ffxiv during beta testing and took a break after 3.5 patch. Returning around 5.5 patch.
I generally do not understand why there are night clubs or venues. Everywhere. How did they become so popular?
I mostly remember PF as savage, dungeons, tome farming, speed running, fc recruiting, groups selling content and minuscule RP if not any.
They exploded when Covid hit. With the lockdowns people found a way to simulate going out to a club/cafe/library/etc. A good idea considering the time but now it's just...odd. People tend to go and AFK or speak in tells so it's just...weird.I started playing Ffxiv during beta testing and took a break after 3.5 patch. Returning around 5.5 patch.

When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
I can attest to speaking in tells, but it's cause I forget to switch chat to say or party chat after I invited friends.., but this is in a non rp setting.
I cam imagine them being more prone to it
In their defense of the tells only one person said they actually had to tell people to keep it in party or tells because if EVERYONE is in /say...and in a small space...you end up with 6+ conversations all at once and it can get confusing. It makes sense but it's also going to be weird for anyone going solo. If you do clubs/venue...go with a group or pretty much not at all.
