Brian from Work 2 Game is leaving FFXIV

Somehow it feels the dude is just trolling his arch nemesis "The XIV Defence Force". I mean otherwise i can't explain why he cries about his 5 kids and not having enough time but in the same video talks about how crazy good New World is. New World is all grind, literally all grind. Not to mention that NW is dead population wise. And while i think it is great that he enjoys at least some game it makes his "I want more time for XYZ" reason really weird since New World doesn't respect peoples time at all not even a bit.

But hey his clickbait worked, same as it did when he talked for an entire week just about his sworn enemy the few andys he had beef with and blew that up to a "The community is toxic" thing. Sometimes i feel that people addicted to Social Media lose the ability to comprehend big numbers. Like how a few toxic trashbags they had contact with don't just add up to millions and millions of people who just enjoy the game peacefully together.

But numbers hard...i know i know. We need another Construct 7 bossfight in the game.

Seems like New World has been reaching out to a lot of video game content creators lately (not just FFXIV creators) asking them if they'd be willing to accept a New World sponsorship. Some of the content creators I've heard talking about it had a general response of "HA HA HA HA HA. Oh, you were serious? No."

What if he's one who said "Yes" because he could use the money?

I mean his video about how New World is better than FFXIV was not convincing. He did hit on a couple of points about how New World does some things differently from FFXIV that might appeal to certain types of players but none of what he said demonstrated that New World was better in any way. Part of what he said made no sense at all, like having more things to do solo in the open world made it a more social game (errr what?). The existence of the video makes little sense - unless he's after the New World sponsorship money.

Every MMO has problems and unless you focus on the positives and enjoy those you'll never be happy in them. If toxic positivity exists as you claim, then toxic negativity definitely does on this forum.

There is definitely not a lack of content but it might be content that you aren't interested in or that you only decide to do once because you don't care about the rewards.

It's not really a content issue that's the problem here, there's endless amounts of side content to tackle. It's more that the core gameplay has changed so little over the last few years.

That happens way too often and Im not judging him for needing the money but it’s still shitty to try to lift another game (or himself or person or anything actually) by putting down another.

Again, just a tin foil hat theory. It could be he genuinely does enjoy the general game play more than FFXIV, being a bit closer to old school MMO content.

But the average age of MMO players has been rising and most players just don't have an interest in old school formulas any more, even if they originally enjoyed them. No one likes to feel like their time investment has been invalidated.

As for risk, similar applies to why old games can't afford to take big risks. Their core player base is those players who like the game's formula. Those who didn't like it would have dropped away over the years to seek out newer games. Take risks that irritate the core player base and you end up losing most of it.

See WoW. It started making some formula changes slowly in Cataclysm and MoP, then went full blast with those changes starting in WoD. A game that had 12 million players at the end of Wrath is now down to a couple of million (rough estimate since it's hard to tell who's paying a sub for the modern game and who's paying the sub for classic since they're combined).

Blizzard annoyed those that had liked what the game was and lost most of them. And FFXIV does not have the same type of numbers to help sustain the game if a similar loss were to occur here. It would probably retain enough to keep FFXIV afloat but what company would be happy about losing that many customers?

You do know what ERP means, right? They don't go around selling you minions, and odds are they're not interested in buying anyone clothing, they'd rather you have none. Maybe the emotes. But rarely do actual in-game animations come into the picture when ERPing.

The issue with this is that while it is a risk, Square hasn't exactly clarified any further. So it really is up in the air whether they'll reconsider or not.

Of course the question then is whether they can reconsider at all if they're being pressured by those institutions.
