Interesting take, but we work in order to sustain ourselves and those who are dependent on us. We also do it to increase the quality of our livelihood. This is a video game, and if the game is not fun and/or does not offer some kind of rewarding experience, people will not play it.

What I was taught is the moment you're willing to take pay for something you enjoy, it becomes a job.

If it's fun I can do it regardless of rewards. If it's not fun or extremely hard then the rewards should be worth the time and/or effort...or i just don't do that thing.

Remember Castrum Litore in Bozja when it got released? While it was fun and brutal for first time, the rewards were so bad that lots of people, once they completed, never bothered to redo leaving new players at their demise.

Now it gives a very sizeable chunk of stuff, along with mettle so dying once or twice wouldn't be so bad.

Getting rewards is fun. The rest is just performing the correct trick, something I get out the way to get to the fun part. If the trick so hard I will never be able to do it right, I have nothing to look forward to and won't want to do the trick anymore.

I do it for both the reward and the fun. As someone that collects mounts I will do almost any content they lock a mount behind. But I draw the line at stuff I won't enjoy. For example, I don't really have many of the PVP mounts outside of the Garo mounts just because I don't enjoy that aspect of the game. They could put a really amazing mount behind getting a top rank in mahjong and I would never bother to get it because I just don't care about mahjong. I think the only PVE combat related mount I haven't gone for yet is the DRS one but that's because I haven't had time to do it and not because I don't like the content.

Do I do savage and ultimate for the reward? Yes. But do I also do that content because I enjoy it? Yes. I wouldn't prog a 14+ minute fight if I wasn't enjoying it.

It's a little bit of both. To me at least.

Rewards incentivize players to do a certain content.
The content being fun adds to its replayability. Well, I guess the former too until you get all the rewards.

    A simple example:
Assuming I already have the all the mounts from EX trials.
One day, I feel like helping out with practice/farm parties so I scroll through PF and see one of each EW trials (Zodiark to Barbariccia EX).
The one I will choose not to do again is Zodiark. Why?
It's boring and spinning platforms are not fun for me.

Another example for Savage raids. I would love to do sync E9S and E11S again because those are really fun. Heck, even E8S despite still having Light Rampart PTSD. But not E10S. Nope. Spinning dogs and orb... screw it.
(I've not done any EW ones)

I've queued into specific trials for no other reason than them being really fun to do.
I've also spent a lot of time chilling in player-owned cafes and bars, where the entire point is fun, not a single reward in sight since it's technically not even "content" in the traditional sense.
Though most of my time is indeed spent progressing towards a reward.

Vast majority? Sure. Vast majority is often boring and predictable, too.

What I wonder is, why did we need another thread of the issue when this couldve been a reply to the already massive thread about rewards.
