Everyone has to start somewhere! I started the game in Heavensward but didn't do an EX on release until Susano EX at the launch of Stormblood. I was really bad, it took me a month to clear the fight and it wasn't all that hard of a fight. Now I've cleared 2 ultimates, working on my 3rd, and am about to have every savage tier cleared when it was relevant since the start of Shadowbringers. You won't know what you can do until you try and work on improving. You can always go back and do an earlier EX so the dps check isn't very tight, whether it be one of the early Endwalker ones or syncing an older easier one. (Garuda, Lakshmi, Ravana, Titania are fairly simple)

A few things that held me back from trying any EX content until recently were:
    1) The content being a few weeks/months old, and it felt like a pressure/embarrassment to learn the fight so late.
    2) PF inconsistency. Sure, I could join a practice party today. But 3 days later when I want to practice again, the run won't be like the previous. It could be better. Could be worse.

My advice would be to try doing the content with your friends/fc members!
Reach out to anyone who have done the EX of your interest and ask if they can accompany you.
My old FC leader managed to convince me doing E4S (with echo), and after that E8S until E11S (didn't do E12S because they increased the raid time and I could no longer commit).

While I consider myself a decent healer, I never would have the confidence to try anything past normal if it weren't for him. I always had the interest. However, looking at the raid guides and job rotation guides, it was intimidating. But really, it's just the fear of the unknown. As you practice it several times you'll get used to it. Those guides only makes sense when you experience it first hand.

That is why I run a static (because again, I dislike PF inconsistency) to do the EX trials and Unreal twice a week. We might try savage down the road after we finish our backlogs (eden savage unsync).

Well, this is a double-post in a sense as I posted it in my 'own' thread (one I started a while back) but I'd have to say it's just as, if not more, relevant to this thread, therefore....

Took the plunge last night and gave Extreme content a look last night. Found a practice group looking for players wanting to give 'Storms Crown (Extreme) a try and decided to drop the team leader a PM saying that would be interested in giving it a try but making it clear had never run Extreme content before and would therefore likely be as much use as handlebars on a surfboard! Thankfully I was encouraged to give it a go and assured that it was a practice run and there'd be others in the team who'd never run it before.

And have to say - huge thanks to that team! They were so patient, understanding and tolerant - my performance was pretty abysmal (just couldn't get my head around the mechanics and was much too slow reacting much of the time) but the healers raised me without any fuss and was given pointers and advice along the way. And I guess I'd have to concede that it didn't look like I was the only one struggling.
Unfortunately, we never managed to get Barbariccia's health bar any lower than 1/2 and, after numerous team-wipes, ran out of time without having beaten her. Still - team parted on good terms.

Not sure about trying again - I'm not sure I was really ready for it, but I guess I can at least say I tried.

Give Shiva or Garuda a try first or Ramuh if you want mayhem (but fun mayhem). You'll feel great when you clear your first. It is hectic the first time you try high end content, its a big step up, and everyone has the same experience as you going synced for the first time. If they dont, they are either the rare exception or being carried.

So, yeah, go for it again

Followed your advice, in terms of Garuda at least, and as you say it was pretty fun!

Also tried 'Storms Crown' a second time, which wasn't quite so fun (again, with a 'Practice' team from the Duty Finder) and still didn't complete but I guess it's useful practice in general.

Keep in mind that it can take several groups to get a kill even for a more experienced player. Not killing it is not a sign of failure.

Many players also use video guides before and during practice. You can replay a mechanic on video multiple times within a few minutes, much faster and clearer than combat for 5 minutes and maybe seeing it amongst the chaos. Text guides offer good explanations if videos are hard to follow.

I feel like i'll just make a bunch of mistakes causing a wipe and just make people give up on me and end the trial.

I may be exaggerating but people put a lot of time and practice into perfecting the proper rotations. I feel like i'm up for the challenge, but fear of failure is slowing me down from putting the step forward to try an extreme trial.

Is this a common fear/concern amongst people who rally up for extreme queues. I think I need to get out of my own head but im curious to know what you Eorzeans think.
Happy to chat and encourage discussions centered around Extreme/unreal difficulty.
First of all, contemplating the challenge shows some desire to give it a shot, and I think that's important.

Second, extreme trials are a lot easier than Savage Raids, so I would start there. Try doing the two from the beginning of Endwalker, they're solved and people are overgeared for them, so you'll find that you won't get bogged down in other people's messes too much.

Third, you are gonna have to accept screwing up. If people get mad and break the party, that's on them. However, you must put yourself out there and join. You *will* make mistakes. There is *no* way around it. If people make you feel bad about it, they're bad people. Maybe talk to whoever you're joining and make sure it's OK that you're a learner before you join though. Maybe ask people you know to help you learn it.

I'd also watch some videos and footage, if I were feeling extra anxious. Memorizing the moves makes it easier.

I don't know if you're like me. But when I don't feel confident about certain mechanic and want to get some practice, I watch POVs on youtube and then put markers near a training dummy. I imagine if the dummy is the boss and the markers are actual markers you see in the fight. Then I just pretend which one is the safe/unsafe spot, imitating the pattern of the mechanics.

If the fight contains multiple phases (like savage) with multiple markers, I save multiple markers in my Waymarks menu and I practice each phase also with training dummy - where to move, etc.

Confidence comes from knowing. Fear comes from not knowing/understanding. If you've seen how people cleared and familiarizing yourself with the fight, your confidence will naturally go up, avoiding it means you remain not knowing. Also, if you want to be time efficient, I recommend you watching vids/learning more than actually doing the fight. This is to prevent early burn out - "I've spent X hours and I still can't do it". If you wiped multiple times in a certain phase/mechanic, replay the videos and try to figure out what you did wrong than to keep on doing it for hours.

Soon that 50% will become 30%, 15%, 8%, 1% and you clear the fight. After that you'll start yawning mid-fight "why do I have to keep doing this boring fight".

    Best of luck.
