Oh ok, so they settled on 2 draft designs from the bunch to judge, but even those aren't set in stone yet.

Keep in mind that's from March, so by now they've probably made the final design decision and are actively working on it.

Also, more than likely they will be added in 7.0 which means they will be designed from the ground up with the added horsepower of the graphical update in mind.

I hope so xD ngl I hope that they're somewhat feral at least. They should match us, imo. Miqo'te 2.0 sound cool, but like... for people who want Miqo 2.0, have you considered that the one reason Hrothgar were even added to this game was because THE DEVS DIDN'T WANT ANOTHER SAME-Y RACE? :) Respectfully.

We already have Miqo'te 2.0 and that's female Au Ra. Who knows what will happen but I feel like the devs understand the game doesn't need yet another cute waifu option or they wouldn't have added Hrothgar to begin with. Too bad they didn't come to that realization around the time of the feral dragon women concept art. :(

I do hope potential female hrothgar players will keep in mind the current limitations and give more feedback regarding that, this time around, or at least keep that in mind when they think about the inclusion of female hrothgar.

One of my main gripes with FFXIV is that all but one of the races are just humans with different ears. I was initially excited when Hrothgar were being added but they're too hunched over and squat for my liking. If female Hrothgar come out and they look sick with great emotes I would totally jump ship, hats and hairstyles be damned.

A lot of players have said that, and then end up switching back. After a couple weeks to a month, many start missing their old headgear and hairs, and fantasia back. Not saying that would happen with you. I do believe there is a portion of players who genuinely want that female beast character niche, and they currently have no alternative.

Well I can only speak for myself but I barely use hats to begin with and use the same hairstyle 98% of the time so I don't think that would be a problem. The only hat I would miss is the one I use with my tank set.

Even if that weren't the case, I can't emphasize enough how boring the races in this game are. For a long time I was drifting from race to race, never really satisfied with any of them until I eventually stumbled across female highlander and loved their spicy personality. Before that I played a female elezen for a while but the thinking was, "well I don't want to be a tiny waifu and I don't like the femroe emotes so I guess this is my only option?" My point being that giving up hats and hairstyles would be a small price to pay to finally get what I wanted from the start.

All that being said, it obviously depends on how they turn out. I would honestly like an update on female Hrothgar if no other reason than to know whether to give up on the dream or not. lol

I'll admit, I did change back to Roegadyn before for a good few months. It took Bozja releasing for me to buy a fantasia and change back. Haven't changed since. The reason I took a break was because, at the time, being a Hrothgar was all I wanted. Something like the Charr but that would fit the game, like a fuzzy Roegadyn. And while originally the lack of additions didn't bother me, what did was Square not bothering to update their stuff to accomodate us, or even make novelty items fit.

I didn't miss headgear, mind you. I have the headgear I like on my Hrothgar anyway. I missed not being so utterly disappointed. Since then I've just accepted that for a long while that I wasn't going to have anything like that. It helped, especially being more involved with some Hrothgar in my own datacenter for a time. Helped my FC leader run a venue, made some houses for Hrothgar, roleplayed as one with other people (no, not in the lewd way. Many wanted me to though, but I'm not very comfortable doing it). I just realized in the end that if I'm going to see any change done for my character, then Hrothgars needed to make their voices be heard alongside Viera. After all, Viera had their male counterpart. SURE it was through some nagging but I don't doubt they saw the forums and they understood what people really wanted.

I do wish I could say the same for the hairs. The treatment Square's been throwing around isn't acceptable. I understand being vague, I understand being cryptic. It's a work culture. But them acting this detached from their playerbase just hurt.

I have no urge to change my character from a Hrothgar now, even if it still hurts. And I think that the people that will want to play this race and really enjoy it will stick to it, even if it takes some time at first. They won't be a popular choice, but Yoshida did imply that they're not doing it out of popularity points. So if we're going to hold them to a higher standard, it should be their words. They gave us so much and we're grateful, but that doesn't mean it's okay to just be lax where it matters, and in a lore heavy MMORPG, in a Final Fantasy game where you get to choose the identity of your protagonist, your race matters. They said so much during the 1.0 -> ARR transition, and they've said so much so far. And fans should hold them accountable, because that's the standard they've set for us.

Well, similarly, you know me, I was switching back and forth off of viera since awhile after they came out. At the same time lamenting the state these races were in ad nauseum on the forums to this day.

I have said in the past, to try and reassure myself, that I probably would have switched anyway, but I don't really think so anymore. Every time I would look at my character as an au ra, or a miqo'te, it didn't feel 'right'. It never felt 'right'. Of course I have some pretty bad obsessive tendencies that have only gotten worse over the years.

FFXIV is a game where you can spend thousands upon thousands of hours (even into the tens of thousands of hours) with your character. Your character matters.

My biggest issue was always hairs, and the seeming lack of care or support for our races (viera/hrothgar). Speaking on that, with female hrothgar, hopefully everything that has been and will be released, in terms of shared hairs for viera/male hrothgar during EW, will be likewise fit for them upon their release, so they have their full selection, alongside, what I presume will be, a handful of female hrothgar specific racial hairs. I'd like to hope that they'd also fit the next expansions artifact gear's headgear for viera/hrothgar as well, but that might be a bit of an ask. I'll ask for it anyway - WITH racial features not cut off.

I don't know where that "they decided on two looks" thing came from. Do they happen to have a source on that, because I'm curious to know in what context it surfaced.

I believe it was in the Q&A section of March 2022 LL. They said "[...] we had the art team draw a variety of styles for possible female Hrothgar designs. We've picked 2 of them and we are currently thinking about how those would look and what adjustments we would have to involve in putting those into character creation. So obviously it's going to be some time before we can actually implement them as a race, but we are working and we are making progress [...]". From this, I only took that they were looking at an overall design rather than 2 faces. But I seem to be the only one who thought that.

If they do that, they're going to get a TON of complaints, anger, and rage from the Hrothgar community, along with anybody else who wanted them to look similar to the males. I'd personally break my rule of "don't harass the devs" for this one.

Are they though? I'm fine with that as long as they look tall, regal and super lean.

Viera have had enough of a presence in the series that people probably knew what to expect, and if not then the Ivalice Alliance Raid series had Fran for a hint. Ronso have only been in one game, by comparison, and there was no NPC teaser in their case. Like, yeah, both of them ended up not entirely like their previous appearances, but I'd say Viera are pretty close, barring the devs sanding off their more inhuman features because of course they would...
