$22 USD for a single outfit for a single character. Nearly half the price of a full expansion and it's not even account wide. Boggles the mind that people not only accept this but gleefully support it.

Kinda gross they put that emote on the Mog Store as well knowing people were asking for it since Bozja. Just keeps getting worse.

That sort of money is trivial for a lot of people. Why would they object?

Still better than sinking a couple of hundred dollars each month into a gacha game like many people do without complaining. $15 a month for near unlimited play time plus an additional $30 a month for vanity sundries to make the experience more fun is a bargain compared to a lot of the entertainment options out there.

If you don't want to pay extra for something, then don't. Your game experience isn't going to suffer for the lack of a few cash shop items.

What others choose to do with their money is their business, whether it's the morning Starbucks on the way to work (there goes over $100 a month), the bi-weekly lunch out at their favorite fast food/casual dining spot ($80-$160 a month), $20 a hour for laser tag (or more if you're buying a bundle), etc.

Can you honestly say you don't spend at least $25 a month on frivolous items you don't need to have just because they add a little extra enjoyment to your life?

Come on, there is money to be made and plenty to defend cash shops! Why fight the inevitable? Personally, I wish they would stop teasing and just dump NFTs in the game. The backlash would be funny but fruitless, lol.

I don't agree but fair enough and I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot and you had people telling you not to buy something that you wanted and could afford, you'd be a bit annoyed too.

At the end of the day, I'm still going to use my money how I like. Not sorry about it. And like I said before, coming at me isn't going to fix the problem. You can't change someone who doesn't see a problem with their actions and this "problem" extends far beyond me.

If ya'll don't like paid cosmetics, cool. You have that right to not...just the same as people who do like them have the right to like them.

I see both sides. I am all for people using their spending cash how they see fit, however, I'm also old enough to remember playing games (and MMOs) before microtransactions were a thing. For better or worse, they've discovered that people will happily pay for additional items that could have already been included in the game, and so here we are.

Some companies obviously handle it better than others, but I'd say XIV is a bit on the greedy side personally. I can understand F2P and B2P games having large cash shops, but this is a subscription game and so they're already pulling in a decent amount just from us playing. I get it, cash shops are just a thing now, but XIV's shop is impressively large, and the prices rival that of some of those F2P/B2P games. And as mentioned above, instead of letting us do a one-time purchase for extra storage (retainers) like other games, they rent it to you monthly.

To their credit, the cash shop items are mostly cosmetics that give no advantage, and those that do give a leg up, the impact is incredibly minimal compared to some of the P2W items you can find in other games.

But anyway, we all have our own personal point where we will feel a company has gone too far. I've bought plenty of items off the cash shop myself, so I am obviously part of the problem, but I've also really cut back on how much I will spend there, and now typically wait for a sale if there's an item I want.


e: Should add that I don't really like the new outfit or the emote, so this isn't just me being bitter about something I want being added at a price I don't want to pay. :P

The poster you are responding to might also consider that some people (like my spouse) have an expensive PC just for gaming. For my spouse, that PC, its monitors and other peripherals, and the furniture that goes with it, easily top US$5000.
Completely frivolous ... but way less expensive than our last vacation in Europe, which was also completely frivolous.

Testing it out with the Dreamfitting in an inn, I am rather surprised the coat hides the tail on a Miqo'te.

It's not an ideal solution, but I am of the opinion that hiding the tail looks better than bad clipping.
