Viera Feet - Aren't they supposed to be digitigrade?

It would've been neat if Viera, and also the Mi'kote and Hrothgar also had appropriate feet.

Although we all know that would simply mean they also wouldn't be able to wear and boot glamours either.

I have never (to my knowledge) resurfaced a thread before. So I wanted to voice my opinion here because this subject is interesting to me.

I would like the option to have digitigrade feet in the character customisation menu.. I know it’s unlikely to be soon, but at least some point in the future? Please. I’m fine with limitations in terms of my characters feet, especially if it means resembling the FF12 Viera that little bit more.

The viera default shoes are okay, but it’s not the same, and I don’t like how the shoes crop down any trousers into shorts. I want to be able to wear trousers and see the lil bunny toes with a heel at the back.

Viera fems don't actually have legs like other races: they have legs designed to look correct in high heels. Let me explain.

Unlike in RL, changing the heel height of a shoe does not change the character's total height.
Instead, high heels in FFXIV shorten the shin/calf of the leg relative to flat soled shoes.
Just cycle your character through various glamours with different heel heights to see this.

Viera fems are designed with this in mind: they have a proportionally longer shin/calf relative to other races.
So when a Viera fems wear high heels, the shin/calf is shortened to have normal proportions, relative to the rest of the leg. OTOH, Viera fems in flat soles have a disproportionately longer calf, that looks a little off to me.

Other races have the opposite problem: high heels shorten the shin/calf.
So I believe you're unlikely to see heels as high as the Viera tribal heels for any other race, because I think it would look too weird.

For me, I only put my Viera fems in high heels; the Summer Sunset Sandals have been very useful for that, when I don't want to use the tribal sandals. I do this partly for lore, and partly because their legs look right that way, to me, and don't look right in flat shoes.

The way their character animation system works they'd need a whole new skeleton with animations along with making sure existing leg and foot pieces work with it. This is the expensive and time consuming part of developing new races. Run through the list of emotes to see how much work would be needed.

At best they could fake it with alternative footwear but it will unlikely look like a digitigrade walk/run cycle.

I've never really liked the look of viera's feet in the other games. If SE were to actually make custom leg pieces to compliment this style it probably wouldn't be as big of an issue for me, but I don't really see them doing that. I don't really see them going back and altering the model for players who do want this either.

I've thought this as well frequently when trying to make glams. Unfortunately, there is a severe lack of heels in this game. I do hope they keep adding more, even things like the recent sandals are great.
