Just please give us medium or large apartment options... my RNG is so bad that I will never get a house, but at least let me have space!
Also, how is that everyone can have their own island, but not a house??? I am just not getting this situation at all.
I honestly give zero f about how many houses others own, SE should just do what is asked.

Honestly, if you really want a house, I would suggest either transferring your character to Materia data center or one of the new EU worlds or make an alt over there, given there are still plenty of empty plots up for bids.
Otherwise, just be prepared to face lots of competition if you are bidding against hundreds of other would be house owners in the mature servers. It's unlikely that SE will add more housing wards in the near future so we just have to play the cards dealt to us by Square Enix with regards to in-game housing.
I've done the same myself given how hopeless the housing situation is in Balmung.
Out of curiosity, if you primarily play on Balmung how does it affect your game experience when the house on Materia? Do continue to spend a fair amount of time at your house (assuming that you've already finished decorating it) or does it end up mostly ignored? Do you actively garden?Honestly, if you really want a house, I would suggest either transferring your character to Materia data center or one of the new EU worlds or make an alt over there, given there are still plenty of empty plots up for bids.

Or have you greatly reduce the amount of time you spend on Balmung and switched to playing mostly where your house is?
That's the type of information other players might like to have if they're considering your advice as a NA player.
Just wait until the new DC comes in November, it isn't worth bothering with a whole new region. If it was working as intended I wouldn't have a screen shot of not only the FC owning an entire ward or darn near, but also of the names of the person owning said FC. And I was one of those idiots who stayed up all night trying to get one on Mateus, now I've moved to Coeurl in the hope of gaining one, along with my friends. Our 30 days is up in 2 days so of course we will miss out on this next lottery phase. But my point stands, they did NOT fix anything and people make multiple accounts get the FC to 6, buy a house on servers that have lower pops, and then as people move in and want houses they sell them on Discord for 400 to 800 million gil. Sorry but that is not only wrong but is certainly against TOS.

I don't have a solo FC. I just created one on Coeurl since there are no individual houses there, and have 3 others, and I have every intention of gaining more members in the future. Besides the 20 friends who are waiting to see if we get a house here before moving to Coeurl. After all why waste money to transfer if you're going to have to transfer again later?

It's mostly up to individual playstyles so what works for me might not work for everyone.Out of curiosity, if you primarily play on Balmung how does it affect your game experience when the house on Materia? That being said, I still spend most of my playtime in Balmung as that is my main server and I've grown attached to it. I only logged into my Zurvan alt maybe once per week to clear some weekly logs and fiddle with the house decorations. I did try gardening but my personal opinion is that it's really not worth the hassle as you have to remember to login to the alt character everyday to garden and the gardening interface is very fiddly, not to mention that onion prices in Materia has crashed so much (60K gil per onion).
If you are a NA player and don't mind waiting, I would highly suggest moving to a new NA world in November rather than a separate region as Ameliaw has mentioned since you can still keep in touch with your friends via DC travel and CWLS, rather than being completely stranded with no cross-region DC travel available currently.
I like whatever system we had back in Stormblood, just buy a house and be done with it or buy it off a player and get it instantly, whatever that was it was my favorite.
Housing after that has became a nightmare.
