It's why I always strive to try and defuse threads when they get heated, even if that leads to some people sending me some, uh, colourful messages at times. It's unfortunate but even if someone is deliberately stirring up trouble then anyone who ends up getting heated in response will risk getting in trouble. So it's often best to either avoid controversial threads altogether, make strategic use of the ignore function and/or take the neutral stance of 'agreeing to disagree'.

The members of #ottergate also shared in your surprise after some of them got suspended for trying to derail a thread that had gone way past the inflammatory point of no return.

Ottergate extended past just a single thread. It was getting fairly obnoxious when people started using otters in random threads to try and shut down opinions they didn't agree with. I didn't report anyone personally, so don't come at me, but I can't say I'm upset that some temp bans were passed out. :X

Yeah. The very first thread (where it started) was probably justified. It was a train wreck from the start. After that, people were definitely asking for bans. Still, I thought it was interesting and somewhat entertaining that they'd let a crap show of a thread continue on, only to draw the line at otters. lol Honestly, the same logic applies to these forums now. The mods seem content to let some pretty tasteless threads stay up while handing out forum vacations for minor offenses by comparison. It boggles the mind. I haven't seen a certain someone active over the last day or so though, so maybe there's some hope for this place yet. Probably not, but a man can dream.

I got once a suspension for calling someone dumb and a snowflake. Clearly I stopped over the line.

I've warned people about that before. The mods are still around, even if it feels like they aren't. The one thing about a forum ban (or suspension), is that it shows exactly what warranted said account action in the email. You really have to guess when it comes to a game warning or strike.

They're pretty quick to take down posts critical of Ishikawa's uwu sadboi OC too, it seems. Actual moderation of incendiary topics infested by trolls? Yeah, let that fester a few days...

Yup thats why I winded up writing them twice…if they banned me, it means they saw on which thread I commented…they saw what it was about since my comment wasn’t about ffxiv either and yet…the thread lasted a bit longer, they deleted it at some point and then after a day or two I saw the troll made yet another thread, AFTER THEY REMOVED MINIMALLY TWO THREADS from the person and yet the person could continue?…..It seems the rules are enforced lighter or stronger depending on whom they are being enforced upon.
Edit: to avoid confusion, I went and checked the forum in private mode whilst I was banned.
Also to add, I can understand why they don’t automatically ban people that take a political stance on a gaming forum but I still think those threads should be closed the instance they appear, not allowed to go on for days.

I was apparently banned today for a couple hours. No email or anything what I rule I broke. I’m guessing mass reported flagged it for review or a certain someone is butthurt we remind him he’s supporting a pedo
