I doubt anyone is getting 'replaced'.
We gained Alisaie in SB, Ryne in ShB, Estinian didn't join us properly until EW, and now Krile is getting a front row seat. That's all.

You're forgetting that she headlined Eureka. Krile kind of took over for Urianger as the "side-content Scion," what with the Warring Triad, Eureka, and now Myths of the Realm. She does things, but only in the space between expansions. It'll be nice to see Krile actually do something, given she was introduced in 3.X, spent all of 4.0 as a Garlean POW, 5.0 keeping the Scions' bodies warm while we were on the First, and did little more in 6.0 than pave the way for our entry to Sharlayan. (Went with us to Zot, Hydaelyn's mouthpiece, brokered the deal with Zenos, yadda yadda.)
I think allying with the Students for an expansion seems likely, more so now that Krile and G'raha have been pulled out of MSQ for what will probably add up to two years by the time 7.0 hits (hopefully that's long enough of a break for the haters). The classic Scions have been keeping up the fight for 15-odd years, and have more than earned a break at this point.

Thancred is also studying the fallout of the Final Days in other regions we have not gone to yet so part of that may play a importance in 6.4 and beyond or during 6.5 since they don't plan to reveal anything related to Season 2 story around 6.4. Atleast not too much of it until 6.5.They also mentioned Thancred was going to have some import in 6.x...but given that he's totally absent from the void storyline thus far, I'm wondering if that's going to be limited strictly to 6.5.
He did mention he was doing recon work in Ilsabard for some purpose he didn't really elaborate on, so perhaps that's hinting at something to come...?

I don't think any real amount of time will satisfy some of the haters. Look at how they treat past not part of the story treatments of various Scions within their arguments. They even all but ignore that we haven't even checked in on the twins for them to remind us how sick and tired they are of one or both of them. I doubt that if somehow one or more of them sat out for an entire expansion (the .0 and all of the follow up .X patches) and a half some would still not be satisfied or have it count for being a long enough time. Only to most likely complain that X character's return felt shoehorned in or some such. You're forgetting that she headlined Eureka. Look, we need another combat Lala after we lost Papalymo and at least this one is female and has non-white hair. Yes to Krile having more MSQ prominence and graduating from side-quests.
I think it's high time Krile stepped up to a major story player and hopefully a combat/trust role.
One thing to consider when we talk about Krile as a trust, I'm assuming that Zero is going to be a major player going forward to0, likely also a trust. I think there was an interview with Yoshi-P talking about the story focusing down to Krile and Thancred in the future. So we can see a pretty decent trust team starring Krile, Thancred, Zero, Estinien and Y'shtola. Covering a tank, a healer, a flex dps/healer, and two always dps (and the WOL).
Zero's presence in the story has a bigger potential for a change in identity than Krile's. Meaning, I believe, that a new class will be helmed by Zero, who has left the 13th behind and started a new life in the Source, maybe wanting to be the hero that redeems the 13th in the future.

I mean it makes sense with the scions returning to the shadows, we need a new source of information to lead us on more adventures. With Krile and Graha rebuilding the students of baldesion it’s logical that Krile will be the one that is guiding us to our next major destination.
Imagine her looking into areas on the source Emet-Selch listed off in Ultima Thule… leading us to Meracydia or the New World or Blindfrost, etc etc using her network through the Students to arrange our travels, so we have some level of support. It allows us a small break from the Scions so they can introduce new characters if they choose to while still grounding us to our roots. Krile and Graha taking lead or even Krile saying “screw it I’m tired of always being left behind. I’m going with you and Graha remaining behind would be cool.

The Scions are actually really samey in terms of makeup, and have only gotten worse about it over time. In terms of combatants, yeah, we've lost the combat-ready lalafel, but in a broader 'including non-combat characters' we also lost the only female hyurs (one to death, one to retirement) and the only male lalafel; we did gain a male miqo'te, but it should also be noted that every time we've gained a Scion it has been of a subrace that we already had: wildwood elezen, seeker miqo'te, plainsfolk lalafel (granted, then the original plainsfolk died). To this day the core group's still never had any of the expansion races, and they only had a roegadyn for a single patch! They're also all of fair skin, and broadly of the same 'fantasy European' aesthetic, which is more of a visual gripe than anything, but people are right to point out it was especially disappointing in Stormblood.
I move that we solve every single one of these representation problems in one fell swoop by recruiting Sadu for the next expansion.
