It's because for whatever reason the male singers always have synthetic vocal effects tuned up to 11. Soken might think it sounds cool or something.

I was thinking they just cranked everything up to 11 with no real balance between anything. The music is good but even trying to balance just the treble, bass and middle in my car with some of the music is hell....

Obviously, not being able to make out the vocals is intentional. The vocals are usually not the point, but the rythym of them.

It's not an engine issue because music plays exactly how the track is and it plays the same without the game.

I keep telling people I hear the alarms going "HEAL ME, HEAL ME, HEAL ME" and no one else seems to hear it. I was starting to wonder if I was losing my mind.

In some of the songs, I'm fairly certain its because they're using Japanese-speaking singers instead of native English speakers. Words end up sung differently than they would be by a native English speaker, making the lyrics a bit more difficult to figure out.

It's not uncommon - many famous musical groups have recorded popular songs with English lyrics while being unable to speak conversational English. They would have language/vocal coaches help them through rote memorization.
