Unpopular opinion on G'raha Tia (spoilers)

I'm not a particularly huge fan of G'raha either and I've had some...very unpleasant encounters with his more devout fans who spew vitriol at anyone who happens to dislike him for any reason whatsoever.

I do think his story could have been ended neatly back in 5.3 and I was disappointed that all the build up just resulted in another fake death. It's getting very boring to me for the game to play sad music and force our character to basically cry over something only for the consequences of the act in question to be reversed literally minutes later. I can't say the game would have gripped me back in the days of ARR or HW if the likes of the Vesper Bay or the Vault incidents were simply reversed a couple of minutes later.

I'd like more weight and depth to the story. For the protagonists to actually suffer rather than the consequences being almost exclusively aimed at minor characters, antagonists and obvious red shirt characters.

Yep, I've been saying this for some time now. We should've parted ways with Graha at the end of ShB. He doesn't really serve a purpose that another member of the Scions can't fulfill. He's here as fanservice and to help SE sell merch.

I wouldn't say that this is an unpopular opinion at all. I didn't begin to dislike the character until after 5.3 wrapped up and it was all downhill from there. Letting characters bow out and exit with grace was like they did back in Heavensward with Ysayle and Haurchefaunt was one of the better aspects of the kind of storytelling we enjoyed in that era.

Despite however vocal some of his current fans are, there are a significant amount of people who are dissatisfied with his current treatment. If it does not improve, then indeed we would've been better off leaving him behind atop the Crystal Tower.

I liked him when he was a respectable character, a leader. These days he looks like a goof following us, doing nothing but waving his ears and being cute.

I liked him a lot, but seriously, I think I'd rather see him end up in 5.3 being a leader, than become this little dog that keeps chasing me.

We knew he would be around for a long time even before 5.0 finished because he has a conversation with us about going on an adventure together. When he told me that I knew he was not dying in 5.0 or any of the patches, otherwise what use would it have served for SE to put it there?

The 5.3 cut scene when he joins the Scions is probably my favourite cutscenes in the game. I was in tears! That said I can see why people dislike his post 5.3 self, and I do wish they give him a little more to do then just be the fawning fanboy. I really do not see why the had him join us in 6.1 too, outside the practical nature of his Trust self. That said, I still like him. He has a charm to him, and the voice actor is fantastic no matter the content he is given. Its another reason why I want to see Corvos, it could be a good chance to see him adopt a more leadership role again.

I'm one of those who was happy they didn't kill him off completely, but I can also agree that his character arc could have ended atop the Crystal Tower and I still would have been content. He lived a long life, saved a world, and got to protect the WoL until the end. That's a good time to return to the aetherial sea, no?

Out of all the current Scions, I don't want anyone to go away. I just with G'raha was a better tank.

I agree. I think that era mostly ended when Y’shtola survived Zenos’ slash. Although they weren’t main character material, the fate of Ysayle, Haurchefant, Papalymo put a lot of stakes in the story back then (I'm ignoring Conrad and Meffrid as they had next to no screen-time).

That and merchandising. Some characters are too big to do away with for sure.

Absolutely. With Vrythra, we finally have a race other than Midlanders, Miqos, Elezens and Lalafells in the party (barring our OC WoL). Of course, it feels like they had to rectify that with adding Zero to it haha /s.

He's the only living Allagan royal blood person alive. The Allagan empire has been a big part of the story throughout from the beginning of 2.0 and Meracydia is the main Allagan Empire area which we will be going into...

True, but it's not like they couldn't have conjured something up to help us interact with Allag stuff (as they've done many times before). But I hope you see what I meant story beat-wise.

To be blunt. I wish all the Scions except Estinien would just go away. [...] I am more interested in Estinien, Gaius, and Vytra. They actually have goals and motivations. Not just some open ended save the world slog.

I get what you mean. I feel that most of the Scions' character arcs, mostly Thancred's, Urianger's and the Twins', have been explored completely and were tied neatly in EW. Hopefully they take a bigger back-seat in this story, and continue to focus on the new blood.

I was actually hesitant to make this thread for this exact reason. I didn't know the pulse of the community concerning him. I only knew he has the biggest Stans out of all the characters.

I think he fit into the story of endwalker well as an archon/scion. The fanservice has died down now, and the edge lords have an edgy character now, so hopefully that will keep them happy for a while.

I find G'hara okay, though he stanning WoL is a bit annoying to see. In EW, he had his cool moment during dealing with the Blasphemies, showing that he didn't lose his leadership as a Crystal Exarch.


I'm glad that Lyse is out of the picture now, though I still feel cringe everytime she is brought back to mention you that she used to the (subpar) main character of a whole expansion. I dislike her so much that I hope to never see her again. The recent story about the real Yda and the child Fornola only makes me hate her even more. How dare Lyse stands where Yda stood?

And naturally there's this sort of dismissiveness and misinterpretation of people's critiques on both the characters present in the main cast at the moment and those we would've liked to see added.

Trust me when I say the last thing "edgelords" wanted was a character questioning "What is a friend?" Because that's not an answer she'll ever find hanging around the Scions that's for sure.
