The point is this, fellow human:

You come here to ask for help. Humbly. We are all equals here.

Therefore you do as requested. You don't come in, drop info sans support request template, and ask in the same post for an ETA on a fix. That's bordering on laughable.

You humbly do as asked. Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V the template and fill in some info. It ain't that hard. With the time you've spent here trying to explain why what is asked of you isn't necessary, you could have done the template already.

Yes, you are that customer. The one who wants the help but simply won't follow the rules. We've all seen them, many of us have helped them from the "other side of the counter," and we all wonder why that customer can't just behave like a normal, reasonable human and do what's asked.

Follow the rules, fill out the template and wait like everyone else. You're nothing better than any other human here. Therefore you do as asked, because you were asked. Weren't you taught this as a child? If not, I'd inquire as to the lack of social education (ask specifically about what it means to "humor" another person.)

Or - completely your prerogative - you drop the issue and go away because you don't want to jump through the "egregious, irrational, unreasonable" hoop of filling out a template. Also a reasonable, appropriate way to proceed.

What isn't appropriate is to decide that things will be done your way because of 'various reasons.' Nah. Do that in your own home; fine. Don't do it when mixing with other humans that are your equals. You have no edge, no right, no reason to impose your own personal rules on this process.

And, no, whether or not they'd decline to fix the bug out of spite won't even come into play. The bug report (read carefully, fellow human) won't even be accepted - a step that comes before a fix - unless the requested information is provided.

Doesn't matter what you do for work, how knowledgeable you are about computers, how easy you think a fix will be, or how sure you are that the info you're being asked to provide doesn't matter. That's you doing the 'I'm above all this,' thing. And that's not how reasonable people work.

    The rules are:

    1. Fill out the template for help.

So, you fill out the template. What part of the rules aren't clear?

("But the requested data is irrelevant and unnecessary, Breakbeat!")

I say again, the rules are:

    1. Fill out a template for help.

So, fill it out. For pete's sake, why the resistance? You know better, then fine, sit there and know better. Fill out the template for kicks and giggles.

Or don't; cut off your nose to spite your face if you think that's the best way forward.
