In defence of these forums, that's what all JV forums are for. The WOW forums are in the same situation, long before the latest expansions which have dealt a heavy blow to the quality of the game.

It is, however, a constant: people grumble much more than they praise. The scandal attracts more than the good news. It's not for nothing that some of today's giants (facebook, for example) highlight new issues: the average user spends more time reading about a disaster.

What's a bit annoying though, is that as soon as you try to counter the trend by pointing out the good sides of a game that, let's be honest, is still one of the best on the MMORPG market, you'll automatically be called a "hardcore fan". As if pointing out that you're on this game because you enjoy it (duh), without idolizing it, is a crime.

No, a lot of posters just like to make strawman arguments and personal attacks towards anyone who is invested in the game and using the forum for the intended purpose of providing feedback.

I've been posting on these forums since the early days of ARR and have met a great many wonderful players through these forums. It's really a matter of curating one's personal experience, learning how to politely agree to disagree and recognising which posters are only there to stir up trouble.

So long as you admit it comes from all angles, including the corner of the room you and your fellows have chosen to stand in I will agree to this notion. If not, and some are mysteriously immune then nay I refuse to.

"Post and move on" is the opposite of how a forum is supposed to work. It's a conversation. Read the other replies and engage.

It does work better when everyone in the forum has the same starting point (eg. "I'm here because I enjoy this thing and want to talk about it") though. When a chunk of the forum population is here because they don't like the thing, it's harder to get a positive conversation going.

So sorry that this place is not an uber-positive perpetual hugbox. It is a forum, and on it criticism and critiques are welcome and warranted even if they as you say "often devolve into the negative". It nevertheless fails to diminish the value of talking points. Such is the nature of critique, and I cannot find it in myself to feel particularly apologetic about this.

Why would someone who's fine with the game come to a forum to post about how they're fine with the game? They'd just play the game. 90% of the people who come here only do it when some longstanding issue drives them to post feedback about it. That's just the nature of most things of this type, unfortunately.
It's a waste of time too, since SE employees haven't posted here in years. We're all just screaming into the wind.
